I just played the WW2 scenario that came with Civilization 2, and it was pretty good. I'm just wondering if there are any decent large scale turn based WW2 similar to that scenario. It was basically the atlantic + west + east europe + north africa + mid east. You had some minor diplomacy, and got to do whatever you wanted, basically. I know about hearts of iron, but it is rts and global. I know about panzer corps, but it is smaller scale and focuses on individual operations. Honestly a mix of Hearts of Iron and Panzer Corps would be ideal. Anything out there? And I know console games are pretty much devoid of any depth, so I am posting here for PC games.

Civilization IV: Beyond The Sword has a delivered scenario/mod called "Road to War" that is a large scale World War II scenario. It was a bit overwhelming for me as it was so big, but sounds right up your ally. Check Civfanatics.com for updates to the delivered mod as several of the community-made delivered scenarios were updated after release.

Civ IV BTS is a great game regardless and you should own it if you like TBS.

If you are interested in a more squad-based tactical TBS game, I highly recommend Silent Storm Gold, which is also set in WWII.

Company of Heroes is always worth trying even though it is RTS. It's just a fabulous WWII strategy game. "Soldiers: Heroes of WWII" is also pretty darn fun as well.

I will look at the road to war mod. I already have silent storm gold, company of heroes, and hearts of iron. I was mostly looking for a large scale Panzer Corps game if one exists. But yeah, I'll look at that road to war mod.

:) This.

This but be preared to learn a lot.

It's pretty much exactly what you're looking for but it's not turn based. However it's dead slow and pausing is part of the game.

Don't forget Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday Armageddon.

I still prefer HoI 2 over HoI 3.

itt: people not reading op. Sigh. But they are correct in their recommendations: you can't go wrong with HoI3. It's technically an RTS, but not like any other RTS you've played. It's fully pausable at any time, and in fact you'll most likely spend half the game paused, fixing your sliders and planning invasions. It's about as turn-based as any game can get without actually being one, and it's extremely fluid.

Definetelly Hearts of Iron III. It may be a bit slow, but it's still really fun.
