Im kind of disappointed in GTX 570 performance with DX11 games. I got a couple gift cards for Micro center thinking about upgrading to Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950. Ive heard nothing but good things about this card. Ive also read the performance boost will be any where from 30-50% faster depending on the game. My MB has PCI 3.0 express and supports Crossfire. This will give good upgrade options for later down the road. Ive havent used a Radeon (ATI) card in years, so this is new territory for me. Thoughts?

Overclock the hell out of it and have fun.#

The 570 is still a good card though - what games is it struggling on?

You should be getting ~90fps on Deus Ex.

DX11 on Batman is broken.

I haven't played Deus in long time.. Probably just needs an update. I'm defiantly going to get Dishonored when it comes out. At this point I just mainly need to know is upgrade worth it? Is the GTX 570 going to be pretty obsolete in another 6 months? I'm better off just waiting?

I had a gtx 570 and I was maxing out Deus Ex no problem, something is wrong with your drivers.

and I don't think it's worth upgrading yet, the 570 is still an amazing card.

Wait until the 700 series come out, than you'll see a big jump.

I'd say just wait for next gen, and I wouldn't worry about Dishonoured.

The GTX 570 is still a damn good card. The difference between it and the 7950 is noticable but not worth 300ish dollars.

What CPU are you using by any chance?

You will get close to 60% more performance on average IF you OC the HD7950 to 1150-1200MHz(which is very easy on this card).

A GTX 570 plays Battlefield 3 at 1920x1080 with everything on high and no MSAA and gets a 50-60FPS... Really no point in upgrading that GPU to anything in my opinion.

A HD 7950 doesn't offer a substantial performance boost.

Also a tip for Metro 2033... Play DX11 on Very High and no DX11 features and no AA if you want a good framerates, turning on either DX11 feature or AA you will end up with 25-30FPS no matter what SINGLE card setup you have.

Interesting, when I played metro 2033, I had it on high, not very high with DX11 and tessellation and it was running ok, i cant remember exact numbers but it was very smooth. This was at 1920x1080 with no MSAA. Not trying to brag or anything, just thought this would be useful somewhat. I still have my GTX570 and I have no desire to upgrade, maybe when the next gen cards come out and when games that require that sort of power start rolling out.

You probably didn't have Advanced DOF on.

Keep the GTX 570. No need to upgrade from something like that right now.

Deus Ex Human Revolution has a micro stuttering issue on many systems that requires a registry tweak to fix. The fix is on the Eidos forums. It doesn't appear to be hardware related as it affects even some of the most high-end systems out there.

Don't why you're having issues with Batman. I can max that game on a GTX 460 at 1680x1050 with ease. Could be a driver issue.

Strange... I just did a few tests and:

1920x1080

  • Very High, No AA or Tesselation and DOF: 70FPS
  • Very High, AA and Tesselation with DOF: 30FPS
  • High, Tesselation with DOF but NO AA: 50FPS

2560x1080

  • Very High, No AA or Tesselation and DOF: 50FPS
  • Very High, AA and Tesselation with DOF: 20FPS
  • High, Tesselation with DOF NO but AA: 40FPS

This is with a GTX 670 2GB and i5 2500K 4.4GHz and 8GB RAM.

Not saying I don't believe you. I just find it strange... Maybe you just don't remember how bad the framerate was? :P

There was a beta driver released that was suppost to fix the "severe drops in frame-rates" as they call it.

It's okay... We all get confuzzled sometimes. Since were on the topic, anyone looking forward to the inevitable slideshow that Metro Last Light is going to be once maxed out? :P Personally I am looking forward to the game but I am not looking forward to it ripping a new whole in my brand new GTX 670, which is probably will :(.

As long as I can play it on High with no AA at 2560x1440 I will be happy. They said that they are optimizing the engine to run better but since they are a small development group with little time and money I'm not holding my breath, chances are its going to run the same... Which basically means unless your playing at 1280x1024 with a GTX 680 prepare to get your card crushed, or lower the settings :|... But who wants to do that?! :P

kraken2109

AMD usually sends out 1 new series every year, so I wouldn't be suprised if the 8000 series came out in January 2013
