I showed up late for the game, after recently trying World of Warcraft I fell in love with it, because I've always loved RPG's of any kind. However seeing how old it is, and honestly the graphics are not "breathtaking"... I'm suprised to see how popular it still is. Do you think it will be one of those things that just never get old, people will always be join in and it willll stay popular for a long time?

Do you honestly think good graphics make a good game ? If Blizzard continues to release quality expansion packs, then WoW will last quite some time. I personally quit due to boredom but I had fun for the time I played.

No I don't think graphics are what make a good game, I was only stating that to someone that hasn't played what appeal does it have until they actually try it and play it.

I think it will last a long time, but eventually, it will fall, and another MMO will rise. No one thought Everquest would fall, but it did, and WoW took over its position. The cycle will repeat, I guarantee it.

It already is. Just look at WOTLK end-game.

It's so easy that hardcore raiders will easily tire out. This is the core of any MMO. If this core disintegrates, the game soon will.

WoW's problems are starting to grow to be too big to ignore.

UO yielded to EQ, EQ yielded to WOW, WoW will yield soon enough. It's not only inevitable, it's a good thing.

It will die eventually, however that could take 5+ more years. I highly doubt you will ever see a WoW2, the reason being there is only so much lore, you cant really just make a new game in the exact same world that has already been played...starting at 1 again. I think blizzard has seen this and that is why their next MMO is a new project. They can take everthing they did well and learned from WoW and put it into a new world where people can start over, but still be excited about. So...will WoW fully die, probably never, but it will most likely fall to Blizzard's new project...so Blizzard will never die.

Everquest is still going and I think it might even be doing better than its own sequel. Final Fantasy XI is still going. No other Western MMORPG (and maybe even Eastern for all I know) has anywhere near the numbers of WoW, and quite a few of them are still around. Of the ones that aren't, it's generally because not much of anyone liked them in the first place. WoW isn't going anywhere for a long, long time. Even if its subscriber numbers fell to a 1% what they are today, there'd still be over 100,000 paying subscribers, and since they would just merge servers, you likely wouldn't really notice much of a difference.

WoW is by most measures better than Everquest (which I've never played myself), and that ten-year-old game had its latest expansion in October of last year. The bottom line is that even when something better comes around, WoW will still be here for a while.

Neither of those other games have really "died" though. Tabula Rasa died. The Matrix Online is getting the plug pulled. Why? Because those games were just not "good" by most people's standards even when they launched. Oddly enough, those two old games that you mentioned are still getting expansions released. Just because they aren't as popular as the once were doesn't mean they are "dead." So with games like that still having enough subscribers for them to actually be making new content, how much longer do you think it will take the record-shattering WoW to truly "die"?

It was NOT made by Bioware.... but I have to agree....I believe that OLD REPUBLIC (not STrek Online), is gonna have a HUGE impact in the MMO Market. It will actually make lots of WoW, LOTRO and other MMO players try it out and maybe even leave WoW for a while if everything works for Bioware. STILL....STILL....it WONT kill WoW....

I have high hopes for ToR, If Bioware can really make an MMO where your decisions will actually have a major effect on you, others and the world. I think we might see a new day of MMO's.

I agree.....sure, they are trying something that has never succeeded before (decisions that affect you and maybe part of the world), but if anyone can do it...it's Bioware, since they really pull if off great on their Single Player games....

I can happily say it isn't going anywhere. 11 (nearing 12) million subscribers is an astounding feat, and they will stop supporting WoW when those people stop playing.

Seeing how Ultima Online and EverQuest are still being played, WoW has a LONG time till it finally dies.

I'm seeing 5-10 years before the idiots over at Blizzard run out of ideas to milk from WoW or before they release WoW2 or something similar. Then another 5-7 years before they shut down their servers, hopefully.

Because you care so much about a game that you don't play? If you don't like or play WoW, then why should you give a crap when their servers shut down?

yet another ex-WoW player that should have quit 6 months earlier than they did. WoW is an amazing game, but people need to stop playing it when it is no longer fun.

But of course they are idiots....that's why they only created with their IDIOTS minds: - One of the best action RPGs to date...if not the best - Two of the best strategy games ever - One of the most popular and better (if not the best) MMOs ever created.. Thank God they are idiots and we have more intelligent people on this forum.

It was NOT made by Bioware....

That didn't really have anything to do with the particular argument that he made. He based the assertion entirely on the IP. (I don't think either of those IPs hold anything remotely approaching the level of "big deal" status that they once did either, especially Star Wars with there being a new Star Wars game every time you turn around.)

Additionally, WoW and the Warcraft series in general also have "millions of fans" themselves in the first place. Therefore by his own logic the Star Wars and Star Trek games will also die out before they even get off of the ground...apparently taking WoW with them on their way down. :P

WoW will die in the next decade. If they release 2 more expansions 1 year apart you can expect the last one last 2-3 years. If that happens it'll probably last to '12-'15.

Shh... sigs like that are great, it is a flag that says obvious things about them, like "ignore me". Besides, they seem to think that Bliz has a pool of 10 people that they shuffle around from Warcraft game to Warcraftgame... until they free those 10 people from WoW, nothing else with "Warcraft" in the titlewill get made.

True.... I never understood people who bash WoW and hope for WC4. I think WoW did more for the Warcraft lore and story than any other WC4 would of... And I'm sure WC4 is on it's way....it will be centered on some conflict that coincides with what's happening on WoW at that time. So let's say, the WC4 campaign happens on another land....and after the game release and a while, that land will be available to WoW players as a new expansion.... how's that for an idea?

SWG was one of the top 5 greatest games I have ever played until sony **** the game up. It was alot better than wow in almost every aspect. It's just that the devs tried to completely change the game, putting their resources into that instead of fixing bugs. But at its prime, definitely one of the greatest MMOs of all time. Now you log in and can't find a single person online. The sense of community is dead.

Seeing as Everquest 1 is still alive and kicking, and it was in no way as popular as WoW was in its prime.. Than it will last for a long time.. Inless Blizzard makes another MMO that will take away from its base, and they know better than that.
