Will Half Life 3 be PC exclusive?

Idk if this has been confirmed ever (nothing seems confirmed with hl3) but it's something I've wondered seeing as its been since 2008 since a true high budget pc exclusive fps was released.

I may be a pessimist but I fully expect the game to be multiplat which would suck. It would be held back by console hardware thats already what 4 or 5 years old?

But we don't even know if it will ever even come out.

Pretty sure if it ever comes out it will be multiplat, but pc will have all the new mods for the new source engine (I would guess). But its never coming out so... :)

It might. With the power they have through Steam, they could easily make it the best selling game of this gen if they wanted. Depends on how much they mind Sony and Microsoft taking a cut for the sake of an added minority playing the game.

I think they should make it PC exclusive. After all, Sony does it with Uncharted etc, so there is no difference. It would be a smarter business decision too, to try to pull people to PC and Steam. And maybe after a couple of years release it to consoles, similar to how GTA5 is being done.

I wouldn't mind it being downgraded and being ported to consoles after the fact like HL2 with the original xbox but I think we all want it developed as a true PC game.

I don't see why it would be. None of the earlier Half Life games were PC exclusives either.

@jun_aka_pekto: Yes they were lol. They were developed as PC games, taking advantage of the high end hardware available of the time. And then later (a decent bit later) released on consoles developed by a completely different company that ported it and found a way to get it running on much weaker hardware. Just because the game didn't remain exclusive for its entire life doesn't mean it didn't release as a true PC game.

I've never, ever seen anyone with a console that has the game.

Yet almost everyone I knew who was a PC gamer back then had the game. I know that's anecdotal evidence and I'm not trying to deny the game exists on PS2. I have just never seen it, nor did I know about that.

FMV's, the most linear opening in any Valve game yet (you literally walk a narrow 2 foot wide path for about 10 minutes). A Call Of Duty style scripted ending. The interactive environment elements from Portal mostly gone.

valve releases all of their games for consoles now. have for several years.

Here's an idea. Let's speculate this after there is an official announcement of HL3?

I'd assume it would be. All others were, and why wouldn't they take this chance to make it steam exclusive and have it show off their new engine along.

I own HL on my PS2 and I live in North America (But I also have it on my PC) but the game also came out on Europe. And the expansions Opposing Force and Blue Shift never came out on the PS2 but the PS2 version had its own extra levels called Half-Life Decay where you play as two female scientists who were the same HEV suit as Gordan Freeman in a co-op gameplay and also one level where you play as the aliens Vortigaunts

what do we care if the consoles get a dumbed down version? Valve would never compromise the PC version even if they would make it multiplat.

I really hope it is PC exclusive but I'm worried it won't be.

Guys Newell already told us there will be no HL3 because of the super high/unreal expectations, His words: "It would only be a let down so we are not planning to make another installment."
And i agree when something gets this hyped it can only be a dissapointment...

im assuming he is referring to you making it sound like portal 2 was somehow inferior to portal because it was "made for consoles".

The world may never know... To be honest I feel no excitement for this game. Guess a release or even the idea of it being made will spark that for me.

I'd say Valve isn't holy grail of PC devs anymore. For fucks sake they've had their biggest following waiting 11 years for a sequel without even a proper announcement....Half Life is arguably the biggest pc series ever what with all its spawned. Second to WoW I'd say.
