I think they are close to equal in performance. Whatever has the lowest TDP and highest TMax value and the lowest price will be best. Depends also if you already have a motherboard that fits one of both.

TDP = Thermal Design Power = watt usage of the CPU, taking leakage + additional heat thereof into account Tmax= max. temp the CPU can work at without failing or malfunctioning

Ummmm, ok. I would get the Intel one, and try to get the 6600.

according to tom's hardware's CPU charts, an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (It didn't have the 5200+) is better than the E6400
so, the 5200+ would probably be the best choice over the E6400

so, the 5200+ would probably be the best choice over the E6400 Tom's Hardware CPU Charts

Very close in performance, I think the X2 5200 being a bit better... The E6600 would be better than that though, and cheaper aswell I think.
