I'm looking for new graphics card (potentially) and I noticed all the damn AMD cards are gone on newegg (7950/7970 are gone and resell on amazon for 300-400), 280x is out of stock and the R9 290 has gone up $70 in price ($400 price was risen to $470) and there all gone too

A friend told me that litecoins have boomed overnight and that's why stock is low (I don't know exactly what that means, could it also have to do with production issues ?).

It's not a huge deal right now (I can wait out with what I got) I was just wondering why stock is wiped out completely (especially since its the holidays which isn't good for AMD to be out of stock right now)

Yer as your friend has said there is a huge demand for bitcoins (I don't know what they are either), and AMD cards are supposedly good at running the algorithm to get them. That's all I know and I'm a little upset as well. Hopefully this doesn't continue when the third party R9 290 cards come out, I really want one.

I personally wouldn't get an AMD card but I'm also looking for a new card. I don't know about you but this has my attention.

lol at the idiots buying amd cards thinking they can make free money. The money you spend on electricity alone to farm all those bitcoins far outweighs the money you make.

Op you best bet is to ether wait or go with nvidia.

As far as AMD cards, I agree. But I've never had a problem with my AMD FX-8120 CPU and am loving it.

What?! The R9 290X is fairly equal with the 780Ti and the R9 290 is fairly the exact same as the R9 290X. The only major difference between the three is that AMD's are $200-$500 cheaper! AND they are better than the TITAN and 780. Trash, what bs.

Many would agree with the CPU, not the GPUs they make.

Radeon is a solid product. To not say it's a worthy competitor to GeForce would be foolish.

Haha, have you used a bulldozer? I strongly doubt it so how would you even know if it's any good or any bad. It's pointless to talk to people like you. This is a big waste of time.

With Mantle and the Price/Performance king at almost every price point, I dont see how you can choose and Nvidia card right now. Yes it sucks the bit coiners are scooping them all up right now, but once people see what Mantle can do, it will be huge. And tons of big upcoming games are using it like Star Citizen and Dragon age 3.

Your putting too much faith into mantle, dont expect the claims that their making. Also AMD does not have an answer to the sub $300 price to performance point with the GTX 760.

indeed... with a non reference cooler you can overclock the shit out of a gtx760. for the price, it is an amazing little card. i have been looking at a lot of GPUs recently since im about to upgrade, and i think GTX 760 is the answer to anyone that wants a reasonable price for 60fps 1080p gaming on ultra settings for the near future.

Just got my Gigabyte GTX 760 in the other day and it has the windforce x3 cooler on it and it can easily boost to 1.3ghz without breaking a sweet staying in the mid 60's. granted I do have a HAF 932 case. but at 1.2+ghz at 1080 this card bypass's a stock GTX 770 or 7970ghz at 1080

Blame litecoin mining.

If you have a 7950 then now the time to sell. It was better earlier in the week.

I was honestly thinking about it, but I don't want to go through the hassle and am perfectly happy with my 7950.

Mining fucking bitcoins is not the same as fucking litecoins Kay? (like guys there is at least 10 crypto currencies out there)

Yes litecoins are profitable to mine in a pool, even with power bills and with a non piece of shit gpu. Bitcoins are not profitable for using gpu's ever nor does anyone with half a brain even mine bit coins with a gpu anymore. It is an ASIC exclusive world in terms of profiting from bitcoin mining.

Using a gpu for bitcoins is dumb.

An ASIC dedicated computer is order of magnitudes faster and a much better investment.

How come that the 760 are that good overclockers? I can get my 680 up to 1304MHz as well, but I wouldn't use it for regular gaming, at least not yet. Though you might beat the core speed of the 770, how about bandwidth?

The 680 has a higher TDP. the 680 uses around 200w while a GTX 760 uses 170w . And when you overclock you add that much more power and heat a 1.2 ghz 680 would use another 30w more watts. What is allowing these 760's to get these great overclocks is because vendors are slapping on coolers meant for 220w+ based cards. the GTX 760 has the same memory bandwidth as GTX 680,192GB/s and the 770 has 224GB/s, at 1080 the difference between the two bandwidth speeds are not going to make much of a difference however many 760 are able to get the memory speeds to 1700-1800mhz matching or surpassing 770's 224GB/s.

Damn well my current card is technically a Tahiti (Sapphire 7870XT) so do you think I could sell it for like $250 ? (to my knowledge its a 7950 with 1GB less Vram).

Its overclocks on stock volts to 1180mhz so do you think I could sell it on ebay/amazon for a decent amount ?

I currently have a Sapphire Dual X 7870XT which is similar to the 7950 (Tahiti based)

Do you think I could sell it now for a decent amount ? (I only paid $180 for it so if I could get $250+ for it then I could let it go for that amount and pay a little out of pocket for something better).

Holy....

7950s going for 350-400 on eBay..... I got mine on Black Friday for $150. I'm definitely selling mine tomorrow, and with the money from my 7850 that is currently for sale, I'm looking at either a r9 280x with $100+ in my pocket, or maybe I'll splurge for a 290. Any other suggestions?

If you're gonna do that, you might as well get a 290, you'll be able to max just about anything..

My thinking as well. If this calms down soon, we can probably get a lot of AMD cards cheap!
