I'm tired of the garbage modem/router combo that Comcast has. I currently pay for 50Mbps

Also what internet service is better than Comcast for price/speed?
A coworker of mine says Centurylink is superior.

Thoughts?

Google Fiber. :D Haha

Seriously though, where do you live? That would make it easier to answer your question.

What does Century Link offer? I work for a TELCO and all Century Link has is DSL in this area. I can say that Comcast will be faster than DSL any day of the week. Are the modems failing or maybe its a signal issue coming from Comcast?

What ever you do buy make sure it is a Docis 3. A D2 can only do up to 20 MBps. I would go with the Motorola D3, It's a modem and router in one. It's about $120 though

You want an 8x4 docsis 3.0 modem

no point in getting a 4x4 modem

Zoom 5341j, sb6141 are your only real options for Comcast.

They tend to give a dory tc8305c which is a giant piece of poop, return that thing asap.

sb6120, zoom5341(non j), dpc3000, etc are all docsis 3.0 modems(4x4)

The dpc3008 is a docsis 8x4 modem, but i don't recommend it. They have issues bonding on the eight channel and their SNR can get messed up. Comcast is aware of this.

i also got comcaststeve (no longer works at comcast) to put the config file of a dpc3008 on a dpc3010 and it has been nothing but problems, they won't activate it for you either

they're really cheap on ebay though, stay way.
