Hey guys, Im been steering clear of games that have installation limits, cant really say Iv missed much other then spore. But Im really curious about the sims 3, and Im hopping that it hasnt been given the same thing spore got. So are there installation limits for the game? also, what kind of protection does it use? are EA still ruining thier games with DRM?

Why do you care?just install the game once and never uninstall it.I'm sure with expansions that EA is going to create for it,you have no reasons to uninstall it.

See the problem is people here "limited installs" and they come to their own conclusions on what it means. Fact is, even before EA removed the DRM on Spore ....You could install and uninstall it thousands of times over and over again and there would never be a problem. The limit thing came into play as far as different PCs were concerned... You could install it on up to 3 PCs with different hardware/configurations and after that it would lock you out. It doesn't even matter now since EA got rid of it due to people complaining and saw that it didn't slow down piracy at all since Spore was leaked and cracked about a week before it even launched. As far as Sims 3 using that kind of DRM... I don't think it has that limit, but even if it does its not as big of a deal as most people assume it is.

The sims 3 limits are two fold:

1) Physical copies (DVD) have a disk check protection, thats it (that has been made aware of by EA, and no one has found anything else)

2) Digital copies (like from D2D/GamersGate/Steam) use SecuROM with a 3 PC activation limit. As long as you do not change your hardware or OS between installs you will not use up extra activations. If there is a chance you might have enough of a change to void the activation, you can de-authorize that computer right from The Sims 3 launcher (Click the Updates button, button to de-authorize should be on top).

Edit: NOTE - Be sure to de-authorize the computer before hardware/OS changes that could take up your activation. In the case of all of your activations being used up for whatever reason, you can contact EA to have a new one added (they might even recharge all 3)
