"I7 has nothing to do with rigs being good in gaming. You can have 5870CF setup with Phenom II 965 that will crush any I7 with a single card or GTX295" quite true, but if you throw those same crossfired 5870's into an i7 rig you'll see a much better performance, as even one 5870 is bottlenecked by a 955Z3P

*Sigh*

The part of your post that was BS/fail/omg/omfg/wtf/bbq/total fail was when you said PII 955 can bottleneck a single 5870... Heck, it wouldn't bottleneck two of those more than an i7, not talking about one. You really need some hardware lessons :D

Wow, your Q6600 @ 3.2GHz seems to be heating more than my PII 955 at 3.7GHz :o

#109 Posted by GTR2addict (11863 posts) -
your phenom is a 45nm PII, mine is a 4 year old 65nm quad :P also, you might also have lower ambients you see... just so you get an idea, we're in the middle of october and most people still go around in t-shirts around here, with ambients of roughly 24/25C, when winter comes, they should drop to 'round 12C for most days, and even colder at night (that is where ill push for 3.6 GHz+)

rig

rig2

Hardware:

Thermaltake Bach II Custom airbrushed case

Thermaltake Liquid cooling system with modded waterblock and modded radiator

2x GTX 260 OC'D edition graphics Cards

Intel Duo core 3.00 GHz Oc'd to 4.6 GHz on each core

4 GBs RAM

800 Watt Power Supply

EVGA nForce 790i Sli FTW series Edition Mo/Bo

The good Stuff:

22'' LCD Screen Monitor

50'' Plasma screen Telivision 1080i

Saitek Blue LED laser Cut key gaming keyboard

xbox 360 wireless controller

ihome 30 ft wireless gaming mouse

Bose 5.1 Digital surround Sound w/optical input

Story:

I'm a mechanic/tech, I took a condenser out of a 1966 mustang a/c unit and modded it to work with Liquid cooling. I ported and polished the copper water block for better flow. The case was originally silver on the inside and back, I used acrylic paint/ clear coat to airbrush it black. This computer Runs at 38 degrees celsius under pressure. And to answer your question... YES I am using dualview with both the lcd and the Plasma.

I have yet to find a game that will challenge this computer.

Oh and btw I don't know if you heard the news... But the gtx 260 OC'd Combined with the 790i Set world Benchmark records.

Please and thanks.

Awesome setup... but you need a better camera, even the VGA on my phone gets better pics. You should try the car radiator method, that's even more effective when paired with a good pump. I've seen it done with a pond pump and a fish tank res, hit 23 idle and 24 load.

#116 Posted by Plo_Koon_basic (799 posts) -
you may have a good computer there, Mr Trentlewis but your "camra phone" or whatever you used to take pics, sucks. Its really hard to even see whats in the pics.

Just got a bunch of free development software through school and may computing project is starting to get going properly so i'm setting my rig up for more of a developer setup.

Found some other hardware whilst doing this so decided to mess about with it a bit (hence the soldering iron and mangled IDE cable.

My main rig is going to go through a wipe and reboot and become a more hardcore development rig running Vista. My old PC (the one with no case on top of the speaker) will be running Windows Server 2008, i'll use this for messing about with networking stuff like a dedicated firewall but mainly it'll be for testing the internet based part of my project.

Anyway here's some pics of the setup + mess:

Your 5.1 setup is wrong too btw, the rear speakers are meant to be behind you, not in a half circle and markop is right, Thermaltake Armor's are a force to be reckoned with in build quality

let's see, a 25$ Xigmatek Dark Knight HDT-S1283V, a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, a Prolimatech Megahalems, the REGULAR Thermalright Ultra 120, the regular Xigmatek HDT-S1283, the Scythe Mugen 2, the scythe orochi, the thermolab baram, the zerotherm fz120, the sunbeam core contact freezer... 90% of these are cheaper than any zalman 9 series and perform admirably better, and those that cost more absolutely DESTROY it
