I currently have a Nvidia 275 GTX that is approximately 5+ years old and I'm looking to upgrade it. I'm not in the mind of spending a ton of money and have been checking out different possibilities. One of the major contenders would be Nvidia 750 Ti Superclocked. Runs about $160 which is kind of the price point I'm looking at. I'm aware it's not the latest and greatest, but do you guys believe it would be a decent upgrade. I know sometimes with newer cards in mid-range, they're not typically "upgrades" compared to prior versions, but thinking that Nvidia has had numerous series between, including the 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, and soon to be 800's, I'm thinking it would be a decent card. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The GTX 750ti would be a good upgrade from a 275, but its on par with a GTX 650ti or GTX 560ti. if you can shell out $250 you can get a GTX 760 which is much much faster. If you cant squeeze money into the budget, find a GTX 750ti that has a pci power connector so its overclock headroom is enormous allowing even more gains. But for the price you could look into AMD's r265 which performs better then 750ti and is roughly the same price.

The nvidia series 300 are laptop based 400 and 500 was Fermi based and 600 and 700(besides the 750) are Kepler. the 800's and 750 are maxwell.

What kind of power supply are you running? If money is an issue you could look at picking up the Nvidia GTX 660. It'll give you considerable improvement over the 750ti, so long as your power supply can handle it. Plus the 660 will only run you about $180, only a $20 increase.

The 750ti and r265 are both great choices and will see you nice boosts in performance. The r265 does use more power on load, but since you're already using a gtx 275 your existing power supply will suffice.

660 uses less power than the 275 so it'll be fine.

TC, as someone who recently upgraded from a 275 I feel reasonably equipped to answer your question.

First off, what are your other specs? This is important since if you're like me you'll end up with a noticeable CPU bottleneck in many games.

750ti isn't a bad card, but you're paying a premium because it's on new technology and it's small and efficient. Instead I would recommend a GTX660, 670 (if you can find one cheap) or a 760. These cards are basically twice the speed of a 275 and will make good upgrades.

Don't get 750Ti, get R7 265 - it's about 10-20% faster at the same price.
