My friend loves Oblivion, SKyrim, Fallout 3, and Fallout NV (I think). She also plays sims (feels she may be outgrowing it now), DIablo 3 (we are done playing it), Borderlands and so on. She will not play console games and is looking for a sandbox RPG it seems. She asked me about Fable 3. I think I scared her away from it :P

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I know there is Risen and other games I have never played.

Yeah, Risen and the Gothic series are very good (up to Gothic 3+the community patch - don't bother with 4). They're not highly polished or easy, but if your friend is wiling to put some effort into them then there's a lot of depth and entertainment there.

What's else? Hmm. Kingdoms of Amalur gets a lot of love, and Two World's seems promising if you can overlook those terrible controls (also has co-open, I think).

As for something more Fallout-y, there's Stalker: Call of Pripyat. It may be more of a shooter than an RPG, but eh, it's a great sandbox post-apocalyptic game.

Kingdoms of Amular is an excellent game. As much as I am a diehard Fallout fan, I think KoA was much better than New Vegas. Two Worlds 2 is fairly good for online co-op, but the imbalance issues and overall controls/camera angles make for a buggy adventure. Risen is unforgiving, but it is very similar to Skyrim to me.

If you are into co-op rpg with a shooter base, Borderlands 2 is a good amount of bang for your buck. I am a good fan of action-based rpg's, but I've found them to be quite dry as of late. That is why games like Dungeon Defenders, Borderlands (1 and 2), and Deus Ex do well. They take a genre and bend it. The last typical action RPG that did well (though not financially) was Kingdoms of Amular. As far as upcoming games, Try looking up Grim Dawn for your Diablo 3 fix. If you are impatient, just play Path of Exile beta. It is diablo with enriched skill trees, darker textures, but crappier graphics. I hope this helps.

Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga

Gothic 2: Gold and Gothic 3(with the community patch)

If she's open minded, then she'll also need to try out -

  • Fallout 1 off GoG.com with the following mods:

Fallout Unofficial patch by TeamX
Fallout High resolution patch
Fallout NPC Mod by TeamX

  • Fallout 2 off GoG.com with the following mods:

The Unofficial Fallout 2 patch and the Restoration Project both found here. This is everything she needs, it already contains the HD patch aswell.

  • Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura off GoG.com with the following mods:

Unofficial Patch
HQ Map Pack
Extra Animations Pack
Hi Res Patch

Arcanum is sort of like a spiritual sequel to Fallout, so it'll feel very familiar. Were it shines is its excellent class system which is head and shoulders above any RPG ever created. You can role play with your character in every way comprehendable. Ex. you can either be a fire warlord, a necromancer, a charismatic healer, a beautiful and persuasive female, a thief, a western gunslinger, hell, even a sadistic herbologist. Anything.

The story is good and the turn-based combat is great. I played it last month for the first time, and it's one of my favorite RPGs of all times.

Not really an RPG but Rage has a lot to offer. Think of it as Fallout 3 with cars.

If she doesn't mind waiting a bit then I'd recommend Far Cry 3.

If you both enjoyed Diablo 3' then maybe Torchlight 2 would work since you both could play together. I also would say Two Worlds 2, and Dragon Knight Saga.

No its not, but some characters are in both games and you can import your save data from TW1 (I dont know what it changes), but for the story as whole its not necessary

If she doesn't mind bad PC ports, she could try Dark Souls.

We both own Torchlight 2, as well as my bro, friend, and her husband :P. We are all going to play sometime soon.

With that said, the game doesn't need to be co-op. We have plenty of those anyway, between borderlands, torchlight, and other games.

She asked me about Fable III and I said, DO NOT TOUCH THAT! :P

Honestly I had not played Fable III, but I have played 1 and 2, and seen and read about 3. 2 was bad enough, but apparently 3 is worse.

She isn't one to care about difficulty being easy, but if its painfuly tough (Demons Souls) she would probably hate it.

I recommend playing the Gothic trilogy in order, since the story is sequential.

Then FO 1 and 2 are the ONLY good games ever made then because FO3 and FONV are the best games I ever played.

Risen and The Witcher/2 would be worth a look.

Two Worlds II is also a surprisingly enjoyable RPG.

I can't think of any decent RPG's that are totally open world like TES/Fallout 3/NV.

Borderlands 2 might be worth a look also if she is in to Diablo 3 and Fallout 3 since its kinda a hybrid of those games.
