I plan on beating 3 or 4 games for every 1 new game I buy. I have around 80 games.

Anyone else try that?

I just made a list of all the games i intend to complete that i own, about 24 games of the over 200 i had (damn those steam sales! :P), assigned them all a number and used a random number generator between 1 - 24 whatever it lands on i play to completion, got through 5 so far 19 to go :)

i have no plan to finish my backlog... and i keep replaying games i've already sunk hundreds of hours into. playing fallout 3 again right now... even though i've already spent more than 300 hours playing it.

My plan is to try and stop buying games while I have games to play.

Backlogs aren't fun. It sucks when you buy a handful of games that you want to play, but by the time you've actually sat down to play through them all you aren't really in the mood to play some of them anymore. Then the backlog becomes more of a chore, and something you dread.

It's best to just buy a game you want to play right then and there, play the ever-loving crap out of it, and then buy the next game you're interested in.

I'll never finish my backlog.

I still haven't finished Neverwinter Nights 2.

I'll never finish my backlog either. I try and finish a game as soon as I buy it, especially newer titles. With older stuff I just hold onto them until I feel like playing them.

This what I do. Instead of buying games during sales I just play my backlog. And by the time it's on sale again it will be cheaper. Example I only bought one game from Steam summer sales(for $3) and actually made around $4 from selling cards. Also you don't have to beat these games if they suck just get a few hours in them and move on.

Weird. I am the same way. Before I play a new game, I like to beat one other newer game, but also do a 2nd or 3rd playthru on another game or two.

It's almost like I don't deserve to enjoy a new game, until I've endured some stuff I enjoy a little less. It's a Catholic thing.

Thread needs some x51 love.

Barely touch one of the humble bundles.

I'm not even religious, but I agree you have to endure sometimes to make stuff you enjoy better.

I've got quite a few decent games to play through for the time being so no need to rush into buying any new ones too soon.

I'm slowly getting through my backlog, but the pile keeps growing. It's a pointless battle really. As long as I have a selection of games still to play, then I know I won't get bored.

backlog? I define it as "games I didn't enjoy". It's just either you really didn't like it and regret buying it or you really didn't like it and can't make yourself time to play it (and then regret buying it) ;)

So I play as much when it's a game I really like. No excuses.

Good luck with any backlogs.... I have such an issue getting to them, something else always comes along... I have tried to stop buying games at this point unless I am super hyped about something.

There are forums where you compete against other forum users to who has beat the most games each month, might be worth trying to compete if you have a lot of games. I just don't care, so I play them as I find the interest. Lately it's been Titan Quest and a small amount of Shogun 2.

@slipknot0129: I've been trying and not gaining much ground on working my backlog before getting new games. I'm happy that I purchased very little during the last two Steam sales, but that didn't keep people on my friend's list from buying me games or gifting me games.

I started keeping track of all my PC & small handful of PS3 games back about mid 2011 - it was around 90ish games I had that I haven't beaten. When I did beat a game, I moved it to the games I've beat column. Roughly 3 years later my unbeaten games list has climbed over 110+ (plus probably another dozen or two games I haven't add to the list). I have however, beaten 33 games since I compiled my list - sadly in 3+ years I added over 60+ games to my ever expanding collection.

Working 2 jobs, having 2 kids, my wife and 2 dogs demanding what free time I have - I don't get much time right now to play.

My rule of thumb for the past year is that if I don't plan on playing the game when I buy it, I don't buy it. Even if its a really really really good deal. I have probably 30+ games in my library I know I never play.

I have 1258 steam games and I only really ever play Dota 2 and Skyrim. To me my backlog is just a number on my profile, that I try and grow.
