Hi,

How does Metro Last Light run in comparison to Metro 2033? Is it the same, better, or worse?

I have a GTX 570 with some other hardware. I used to have a GTX 660 but sold it to save some money. Anyway, 2033 was running only "OK" on that card (it was probably the CPU, though), and I wonder if I'll be able to run the newer game with a 570. I know it has a benchmark option, but I can't access it without buying the game, which is really stupid.

This. It seemed like Last Light was better optimized than 2033.

When my primary card was still my GTX 560 Ti, I ran Metro Last Light on High, No SSAA, No Tesselation at DX11, 1080p. Sometimes, I had to drop it to Medium in order to maintain playable framerates.

I decided to force DX10 and keep it at High at all times. The GTX 570 should do much better.

Hello.

About how well GTX570 will perform in Metro Last Light:

Fermi based GPUs perform suprisingly well at Metro Last Light.

GTX570 will perform around 33-35FPS between 560ti and 580 at Highest settings.

"We tested at the highest details with PhysX turned off."

i don't know about the stock 570 but mine running at 910 core and a 2500k@4.2 ran the game maxed out (without DoF and physx maxed) from low 40's to 60, mostly in high 40's when outside and 60 inside

Well, unfortunately Last Light runs absolutely terribly. It starts out just fine, sort-of-smooth, and then the framerate takes a dive into what I'd imagine is around 15 fps. I set the settings to Medium, Motion Blue to Low, no Advanced Physx, no SSA, DX11, and 4X filtering. When I run the benchmark with these settings, the average framerate for the three runs is 50 FPS, which is great, and it also looks great when it runs the benchmark, but the game itself doesn't even play half as smooth.

If you're more concerned about performance rather than looks, your best bet is to force DX9 or DX10.

Wait a minute. I have a GTX570 and Metro 2033 was running very well at high.

I am wondering if there is an other part of your hardware that limits the game.

What's your CPU and RAM?

8gb ram and a dual core i5 at 3.3ghz. Same hardware as with metro 2033 which ran decently.

I ran Metro 2033 on my GTX 570 with max settings except for DoF being turned off because I didn't like it.

I also had 4x MSAA turned on and the game ran fine.

On Metro Last Light I had all the settings maxed except for SSAA off and it ran fine even with physX on.

As you can see yonyz, the problem is your CPU. RyviusARC can almost MAX Metro Last Light, which I guess he has a newer (sandybridge or later) quad core.

Some old core i5 (clarkdale architecture) was indeed a dual core with HT.

You probably have the 3,33Ghz i5 660-661. Unfortunately this is not better than a sandybridge lower clocked pentium for gaming.

If you want, you can upgrade your CPU with a Lynnfield CPU which means a core i5 7xx or core i7 8xx (and some 9xx models).

You can find a cheap upgrade in e-bay as low as $100 for a core i7 860 :).

It can't be the CPU, because I used the same cup with metro 2033 and it ran better. Also, the frame rate drops after a few minutes regardless of the area in the game where I am (I'm at the very beginning, no action scenes yet). The benchmark also runs great, with smooth action and all.

I'm sure it'll run perfectly fine for you. Ran surprisingly well for me. From what I saw on YouTube, I was expecting to have to run everything on Low/Off, and at a low res. Runs at normal at native res (granted that's 1440x900) at an average of probably 45+ FPS. That might not sound impressive, but it really is for a Core 2 Quad and GT 630
