Hello guys, so after lot of reading i decided to overclock my core duo 6400 but i dont fully understand the Ram values i have 2 Kingston Pc2700 (166Mhz) total 1.5Gb Ram i think my Ram is old  right? should i get new ones wich?, im running  at 300 FBS but i just got 2.4Ghz i think my mobo isnt the greatest for OC but i was hoping to get at lest 3.0Ghz on my BIOs i cant change the voltages and i set my ram to DDr 400 200Mhz is that right? Should i be getting more from my system? what im doing wrong here? You help is much apreciated thanks!!Screens of my results:[img=http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/5028/ocsau0.th.jpg] [img=http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/1025/ocs2ie7.th.jpg]

Your FSB:RAM ratio isn't ideal.  From what I've read, you really want a 1:1 for it.

Your ram speed needs to be identicle or faster to your FSB for any good results when it comes to overclocking. Your ram is slowing down your computer at just the 300 mhz you have now.

Okay so as i expected my ram is the main problem  so what kinda shoukd i get for my system?

Your motherboard isn't able to run DDR2?  You ideally want a RAM speed that matches whatever you end up with as your FSB.

Your RAM and mobo are both crap for overclocking. :( Why did you get such a good case and processor when you didn't have the mobo, RAM and GPU to go with it. Hell, even an Intel G965 media board would offer similar performance to that setup. Save up some cash, and go for a mobo, GPU, RAM and PSU upgrade.

Yeah i know my mobo sux for OC i have been looking around to upgrade my mobo and Ram but i dont know what fits better on my setup, any sugestions? Im not upgrading my GPU right now cuz im waiting for the G8s they say is coming out mid march can i get good mobo and ram for about 300$ or i shouldnt be cheap when it comes to mobo? Thanks for the help!

RAM you are gonna be looking at 2 gb ddr2 with a good new mobo, and the ram itself is about 200- 250 dollars

Truthfully, you did a great value upgrade.  You probably had a single core 64 AMD and wanted to grab a Dual Core but wanted to recycle your AGP card and ram?  Plus you got that PSU for free?  I wouldn't OC this board and would wait until you get a performance board.  On your Asrock, the wall is 300 fsb right?  For $350 you could get a great board and 2 gigs of ram.  Problem is you need to wait a bit so you have a GPU and since you are waiting on the G80s that is going to be another month.  I would wait for until march.  btw, you can get the 500w Ultra for free now after rebate.

Yeah just work up some money and do system upgrade (except for the Core 2 Duo of course).

You are right i had a Compaq Amd +3000 or something like that (i still have just need ram and hdd is gonna be my workhorse) i got the case psu mobo and processor all togheter for $370 but now i know the mobo isnt enough for what i want (this is my first time building i dont really know what is good) i knew i needed to upgrade my ram, so where did you find the ultra 500w for free? And the other shoppers experts out there dont be shy post you opnions and links if you want to help me :) upgrade. Thanks guys much apreciated!

In my opinion, this was a good idea to use as a stepping.  You can get DDR2 ram first until you can get a performance board and GPU.  Keep the CPU of course cause you can easily get $900 CPU performance out of it.

OK look for (on newegg): - MSI P965 Platnium or abit AB9 PRO motherboard. - 2GB of Geil DDR2-667+ - 7600GS (should last you until you get a 8600 Ultra) - Sunbeamtech Nuuo 550w Modular PSU Sell the unneeded parts. Also, are those HDDs SATA or PATA? If they're PATA just transfer your files to a 160GB-250GB Western Digital SATA HDD and sell the PATA drives too. Shouldn't cost that much, so long as you keep buying and selling, buying and selling.

Never heard of that PSU, but I'd have a look at this site for PSU reviews. http://jonnyguru.com/

Very good PSU!

Yup, i got the PSU today and its just what i expected silent and cold, and seems to be stable the next on my list is the memory RAM, so if you have any sugestions feel free to say so :) also soon to come is a new mobo ivee been looking at Asus P5 but they have so many diferent types, anyone has coments the mobos?

hmm... Well.. Right now you have AGP so just stay with the mobo you have for a bit.. You can try to raise the FSB a bit.. but if you upgrade motherboard... You are going to need new ram (DDR2) and a new video card (PCI-E x16) I would look at waiting until the 8xxx video cards come out and get one of the lowerend one of those with some nice Geil ram (they are usually pretty cheap) and the Gigabyte 965 based board is awesome for overclocking.
