Hi, i want to buy a laptop, i would like to play games such as old hits like Oblivion, Far cry 1 and 2...sports games (Fifa 12, NBA 2k13), Race driver grid, Diablo 3, and some more demanding games like Dead island, GTA V, Dishonored. I know that with no dedicated GPU i cannot expect more than low or medium settings for the most demanding games, but if it runs well in low it is fine, i am not an hardcore gamer! So i would like to go for an HP laptop, the prices are around 500 dollars for all, the big question is: An HP laptop with Intel 3rd gen. i5-3210M (2 core, 2.5ghz up to 3.1 with turbo boost), 8 or 6 ram gb, intel HD graphics 4000 GPU. Or, HP laptop with AMD A8-4500M (4 core, 1.9ghz up to 2.8 with turbo boost), 6 gb ram, radeon HD 7640G. Thank you for your help, do not hesitate to mention other products in the same budget (500 dollars at the most), i would prefer a laptop, and i would play 2 hours per day, 3 at the most on it, thank you.

AMD A8-4500M in a heart beat. The moment I you mentioned intel's HD 4000 I said bye bye to it.

Thank you Xtasy26, but could you tell me why? i also read that AMD is not as good as Intel, some other people like you prefer AMD, but i still do not know WHY. The AMD integrated gpu is better than the intel one? an AMD 4 core would make a difference over an intel dual core even without a dedicated gpu?

Lol, Dishonored is not demanding at all, a way older laptop could probably play it at medium settings.

I'd go with the i5, the HD4000 chip is on pretty much the same level as the HD7650G.
Regarding the CPU itself for most applications, including games, the i5 will be faster.

None of those PC's will be great for gaming though, the CPU's are low end and the GPU's too.

But the PC with i5 will be faster in most applications.

Battlespectre, i tough that Dishonored was a demanding game! Yellonet, thank you for your opinion, it is so confusing some people tell you AMD others Intel, well i know that those laptops clearly are not gaming laptops, as i said i would play a couple of hours a day, and do you think that Dead Island, Diablo 3, Dishonored and some recent good games would run well on low settings on the intel or the amd? Do you think i could find something better arround 500 dollars? what would you do? THANK YOU GUYS!

Just look up a few benchmarks and compare the two CPU's and you'll see for yourself.

For instance here: www.passmark.com

Whether or not you can find something better I don't know, laptops are generally quite expensive if you want good gaming performance.
A desktop PC however, if you could add a $100 or so you could get a pretty decent rig.

AMD A8-4500M is easily better than the HD 4000 when it comes to gaming. It will easily beat the intel's HD 4000 when you are gaming at the resolution of your laptop. Not to mention intel's graphics drivers are a JOKE.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-A-Series-A8-4500M-Notebook-Processor.74884.0.html

Here's a link above:

Straight from the article:

"The integrated DirectX 11-compatible Radeon HD 7640G offers only 256 shader cores of the Trinity chip (7660G: 384) and, thanks to Turbo Core, will operate anywhere between 497 to 655 MHz depending on the current application demand. On average, the performance of the HD 7640G GPU is comparable to a dedicated Radeon HD 7610M and is even faster than the HD Graphics 4000 as found in Intels Ivy Bridge."

I hope this is clear enough for you. My brother has an similar laptop and he could do pretty descent gaming, while he can't max out games, it's pretty good at running games at descent frames. I wouldn't even bother to go with anything that says intel graphics in it.

AMD, plus it's better on battery life and cheaper... So it's a win win win.

How is the amd better on battery life?

I'd get the Intel laptop, but the amd will be slightly better depending on the game.

General laptop performance will be noticeably better on the Intel though.

There is no way he should get the intel laptop, it has that crap HD 4000 chip. It will get mauled by the A8 APU.

The a8 is also a lot slower for other applications. For most games yeah. As a general laptop, the intel is better.
