You can download Garry's Mod 9, which was the previous version (there are a couple of changes, but nothing major, pretty much just polish and a couple of new effects) which is free.
Gmod 9 does not work anymore because they do not update it! And you can play Hl2 with gmod by transfering the files from hl2 folder to gmod folder! But it would offcourse be much easier to just buy hl2 to that other account or the otherway.
