Hey guys, i have recently upgraded my pc and obviously wanted to try GTA 4 (2008) modded. I finally bought a 4k TV too (Philips 55PUS7909 4k at 60hz)... Wanted to share with you guys how good the game looks at that resolution, also if you see it up close on actual 4k tv, its even better!

My System specs:

Asus Z97-Deluxe

Intel Core i7-4790k 4.6Ghz OC'd

16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro Red

4GB EVGA GTX 980 Superclocked

So now GTA IV is more fun, as well as better looking than GTA V.

would be nice to actually see some video footage. All these GTA IV stills look amazing... but they are just stills and you realize the user is probably running the game at 10 fps. Kind of like those skyrim mod screens.

How do you know that? GTAV isn't out on PC yet.

Nothing like higher resolutions to give you GTA 4's ugly blurry graphics in uber clarity. Plasma > 4k all the way

My judgement is purely on screens:

I personally don't like the almost luminous daytime coloring of GTA V.

Also, I have played both on console and GTA IV is much more fun.

You might just be the only individual who has that opinion - at least you're the only one I've heard who's voiced it. GTA V is almost a generational leap over GTA 4 graphically. It's no small difference.

In terms of "fun", GTA 4 has been the black sheep, San Andreas and GTA 5 are rated much more highly among fans. GTA 4 simply has so little going on in it.

I am definitely not the only individual who has that opinion:

I would agree with most of the points in that thread, especially the driving physics, hand to hand combat and the city feeling alive amongst many others. I got bored/irritated with GTA V very quickly.

I never rated GTA IV higher than San Andreas. I can't really compare the two.

You kidding me? The driving physics in GTA 4 are abysmal and it's difficult to take anyone seriously who argues otherwise. Just a bunch of nostalgic nuts, I tell you. Anyone who has played both the games can tell you that those points in the OP are mostly bullshit. Point 13, for example, GTA 4 is the game introduced the smartphone and social media stuff - not GTA V. And having less main characters is an advantage? That's just silly. If you took a poll on the best GTA game, I doubt GTA 4 would come anywhere close to SA or V.

I have it capped at 30 fps (constant) to play at that resolution and it feels just st good, once you go 4k, downing the res is eyesore

Stop it. I'm in the market for new hardware and a display. Your making me think more expensively, lol.

Anyway what kind of performance are you getting at that resolution? How do other games perform in your experience?

I get 30fps wit no dips, i have it capped, cause i hate when it goes to 40 and back to 30 so i have it just capped. Some more recent games give you really bad performance at 4k even on my rig, but games before 2014 look amazing at that res and run fine. If i cant get 30 or 60 fps depending on the game i play at 1440p

GTA 4 is better than 5. The story, characters and missions are better. GTA 5 has better graphics and refined game mechanics, but I never got into it like GTA 4. The GTA 4 expansions were great too. GTA V focused so much on making a believable world for GTA online and the campaign suffered as a result.

Keeping my ear to the ground, I've heard nothing but GTA 4 is overrated in these parts (and everywhere else) - and now people are saying it's the better game? The Ballad of Gay Tony was alright, but man, GTA 4 was basically a chore. Driving was a chore, having to take your cousin out was a chore, the story was a chore to get through, and the game was really lacking in fun elements. All you did was drive from A to B, kill X and Y, rob a bank, escape the cops, and that's it. Not a lot of variety, zaniness, or anything fun to do outside of the repetitive story missions. The story was throw-away as it came, I quit on the last mission because I had no interest in how the game was going to end.

If only the times square mod would display the McDonalds logo right in the distance...

What graphics mod are you using?

Btw I like GTA IV more story wise as V. Had more fun playing it.

Most people I talk to like GTA 4 better. Everyone has their preferences and connects differently to the story and characters. My family is comprised of European immigrants, so I could relate to the main characters in GTA 4 and found them funny. GTA V protagonists did nothing for me.

Looks like I'm not the only one who has this opinion. I don't see anyone else fighting GTA Vs corner.

The 3 protagonists in GTA V were truly terrible. I hated playing as three rich, moaning A$$holes.

The collision physics was poor.

The streets were empty, the cops were zero tolerant and overpowered. I could go on.

GTA IV introduced an interactive phone for text messages and phone calls only, not a smartphone with internet or a ridiculous selfie function.

I'm not saying GTA 5 wasn't a good game, but GTA 4 trumped it easily in my opinion in terms of gameplay and story.

I don't know what copy of GTA V you played. My GTA V's streets were absolutely filled with diverse pedestrians and cars. In GTA 4 I'd be lucky if I didn't see three identical cars driving next to eachother on every street. In GTA 4, tons of game functions were handled using the phone, including the multiplayer. And like you just ignored, GTA 4 also introduced social media ingame through the use of computers, not GTA V.

The collision physics slayed GTA 4's. Unless you like cars that bend around like silly-puddy and somehow still drive. In GTA 4 if you hit a traffic pole and it falls on you, it doesn't even scratch the car or show anything that you've actually hit it. In GTA V, if you hit a traffic pole and it falls on your car, it dents it, scratches it, and actually damages it. It's pretty much on a whole new level from GTA 4's destruction, which was really lacking in detail.

Worst of all - GTA 4's controls were abysmal. All the cars control as if they're on ice - even controlling the player on foot is awkward, sluggish, and looks hilariously bad. Just walking down from the apartment in GTA 4 , Niko looks like a robot alien as he tries to navigate down the stairs and out the door. Without any exaggeration, it has some of the worst animation I've seen in a modern open world game.

I started a thread asking for people's fav GTA game, GTA 4 has no votes at the moment, so go cast it.
