I'm sure you have all heard this question hundreds of times, but I'm new to steam and i'm trying to find some good games to burn my summer away with.

I currently have Portal, Half Life 2: Deathmatch, Counter Strike: Source, Garry's Mod, Day of Defeat: Source, and Torchlight

Price isn't an issue. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: My Computer Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, Nvidia GTS 250, AMD Athlon X4 Quad, 10gb RAM

I found Zombie Driver quite a laugh buts its quite a small game. If your looking to burn some time i suggest Dragon Age, as both it and the expansion are on steam. Osmos is a must play :P very chilled with great music, and also strangely addictive. Another might be Euphloria if you like a bit of stratergy.

You on a mac, or any preferences in the genre?

Anyways, I can strongly reccoment Killing Floor (co-op zombie/experiement fps) where you have some fairly decently made maps in classical horror style, and some modern influences, like downtown london streets, or a crash site, deserted icebreaker ect.

It is Really really addictive :P (works both for pc and mac)

Borderlands too is a really solid co op game, but rather openworld, with a huge loot aspect (only work on pc tho I think)

Dawn of war 2 and Company of heroes are 2 musts for rts fans, and Empire: total war (or napoleon: total war are quite good). (Also only PC.)

I dont know if Red orcestra is still playied, but it is quite good aswell. (both pc and mac)

And then ofcourse there is The witcher what I consider the best rpg for the last handful of years. (pc only)

Then there is the stalker series... Do note that altho it is an FPS game, with RPG elements (not alot) It is more focused on survival then running and gunning. it is a really good series. (pc only I think)

and bf2 (not bfbc2) its old, but still holds up quite well gameplaywise, and has alot of players still.

Oblivion and FO3 are both quite decent games aswell, altho they are a bit pricy compared to thier age when bought through steam...

Ahh ust saw your edit :3

Rome: Total War

Call of Duty 4: MW

Fallout 3

Dragon Age: Origins

Mass Effect 1/2

Left 4 Dead 1/2

Burnout Paradise

Machinarium

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

STALKER: Shadow of Chernoby / Clear Sky / Call of Pripyat

Mount and Blade Warband

Those are some of my favorites from Steam. Also, anything from Valve themselves is a sure buy, especially the Half Life series.

Tropico 3, QuantZ and Torchlight are currently on sale, buy them. There will be a new sale again this week so play those three games until then and buy more cheap games. You can keep doing it every week and you'll save loads of money.

If you like scary games I recommend the 'Penumbra Collection'. The civ 4 pack will consume a lot of your time if you like strategy. Guild Wars pack is pretty awesome. Anno 1404 (Dawn of Discovery). There are too many choices.

I agree. I love this game so much. I got it close to its release and I've come back to it more than once. But if you decide to get, download the fan made patch, it stabilizes the game tremendously, and just makes it better over all. Also, they've got the original Deus Ex, and invisible war. Both those are awesome, and Vampire is like those. I also sunk far too many hours in the original Mount and Blade. It's also very worth it.
