Right now I'm in the process of getting a new computer, and need some suggestions for a good DX10 graphics card. Although I do have a budget and the computer without the graphics card already costs around $679, so I'm trying to stay within a $800 budget. Thanks in advance.

not gonna happen. the cheapest DX10 card that will give decent performance in DX10 is the 320MB 8800 GTS

What about the Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT? Is that any good?

It's a pretty decent video card and it's your best bet since you have an $800 budget.. and the PC itself costs $679.
Might want to get an X1950Pro or 7900GS instead though, since they offer better DX9 performance.

As for DX10 games, don't expect too much from an 8600GT. :P

Do you think that card will run Crysis well enough or should I try another card?

My friend has an 8600GT and gets average 6 FPS in Company of Heroes with the DX10 patch. I forgot what resolution he plays at though.

A high end Dx9 card could do the job.

No offense, but just get a x1950 or a used xbox 360 for your gaming.

Actually I've got some extra money coming my way now so I will have enough cash to get a Geforce 8800 GTS. I'll be getting the 640mb one so that is a good card right? This should run Crysis well enough?

Yes that card will be perfect. The devs themselves said that the game should run on ultra with a core 2 duo, a 8800GTs, and 2Gb of ram. Quick question though. What size monitor do you play on???

A 8600GT/GTS should be enough to play Crysis in directx 9 mode well but if you really want to use directx 10, the 8800GTS is the way to go.

We dont know how 8600GT/S will perform in DX10 games. I personaly think that 8600GTS will play crysis mostly high settings whit some medium very smoothly. Yeah go on and laugh.Iknowwhyithinksoo.
