Dell Ultrasharp U2412 much better than my current monitor?

Hi all, I currently have a 22 inch LG2261, which is kinda ok I guess, but I notice really bad back light bleeding and the viewing angles are poor. Also when I look at photographs, the colours are kinda average aswell.

So im considering getting a dell ultrasharp u2412, do you think this would be a worthwhile move?

I usually do gaming but I also do a bit of photography though not professionally.

I'm not familiar with a u2412 so I assume you mean the u2412m. If that's the one you mean, it's a great monitor. I have three.

Pros:

• LED backlight means it'll probably last a very long time. No cold cathode tube to eventually burn out. Replacing those is a huge PITA.
• Virtually no heat. Monitor feels room temperature to the touch on the back.
• Great color accuracy. The Dell u series monitors are known for this. They come pre-calibrated.
• Excellent build quality.
• Multiple inputs including DisplayPort
• OSD and Monitor Stand support landscape and portrait rotation.
• Lightweight.
• IPS panel. Having seen the difference I will never buy a non IPS panel again.

Cons:

• LED backlit monitors take a little bit longer to dim/re-brighten. There is some lag there compared to CCF monitors.
• The color accuracy/gamut is better than average but if you are serious about photo printing the CCF based Dells are better.
• Reponse time is average (practical tests across different websites put it around 12-16ms). The fastest monitors in these tests are closer to 3-4ms and the slowest are around 30ms. Personally, 30ms is noticable to me but 16ms is not. These are not marketed as "gaming" monitors but I think that gaming monitors are not necessarily the best monitors.

only upgrade worthwhile would be 120hz.

The Dell U2412 is an IPS panel. That alone makes it superior to the vast majority of other 22 or 24 inch monitors. IPS will be beneficial to both gaming and amateur photography.

120 Hz is useless for photography.

lol scrublet try 60hz gaming FPS like CS then try 120hz. The difference is night and day. Once you go 120hz you won't go back or go IPS. As long as you don't get a pos 120hz from Acer, you are g2g.

You do realize the best 120 Hz monitor looks like poo compared to an IPS monitor when it comes to color reproduction, gamut, and viewing angle?

120 Hz is ONLY useful during games, and ONLY during fast paced games. IPS is useful under every situation.

I encourage the op to make up their own mind, but the thread is to provide him/her the info to make an informed descision. That's why I listed the pros/cons. 120hz has it's plusses but IPS panels are great. 3D is kind of hot right now, but a good quality panel that's easy on the eyes never goes out of style. I've been gaming since way before LCD even existed so I laugh at the idea that some frame doubling and 10ms difference in draw time will be the difference between a great gaming experience and a horrible one.

I have the 23 inch version and compared to a previous samsung monitor (smaller, older, and less expensive) it is a substantial upgrade in picture quality. The stand on these Dell monitors is awesome as well.

Read a couple threads comparing this Dell to some others, but I went with the HP ZR2440w. I wanted an IPS monitor for gaming over a 120hz 3d benQ or the new asus 144hz. Motion speed isn't as important to me as color and vividness. I heard the HP may be slightly better than the u2412. I encourage you to research. Good luck with your decision.
