Just get i5 because they're cheaper and i7 doesn't really perform much better in gaming.

$230 for a 4820? sounds good but make sure you can get a good deal on the mobo or its wasted money.

Here's a nice i5 build with R9 280X. Overall nice build, hope you like it.

Well if you are thinking about how good is the deal, its a great deal.

Unlike the previous i7 3820, the i7 4820K is an overclocking enabled CPU.

So yeah the $230 is absoletly steal.

But. X79 will be a dead platform in a few months. Haswell extreme is on the way offering a 6core CPU for $400.

So if you plan to give around $800 for a gaming build your choice is nice. But if you plan spending more than $1000 I would suggest you to wait a bit.

An other option is to go with i7 4690K/4790K and a cheaper Z97 mobo....

There are so many choices. If you not specify the total budget of your gaming build we cannot say anything for sure...
