Hey guys, like the title suggest, i'm currently looking for a new monitor. I currently have a Samsung BX2235 that i'm about togive to my sister so i'm looking for a new one.

I like this monitor alot, it's really great so I was thinking of getting another samsung but this time I would like to have a bigger screen.

So here are the restriction. Has to be 27inch and has to be LED. Preferably a samsung but the brand doesn't matter that much. Price is not really an issue.

So if you could give me a couple of sugestions it would be really appreciated since i'm a little out of the loop about what's currently hot in the monitors department . Thanks!

27" at 1080p is pretty garbage. Would you be willing to go for a smaller 24" or 23"?

Also, any budget set?

What's wrong with a 27'' at 1080p ? And no budjet is not important right now.

The only 27 inch monitors worth buying have a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 but their price is more in the $750 to $900 range. A 27 inch 1920 x 1080 monitor just has a large pixel pitch making text appear jagged. At this resolution you're better off sticking with a 23 inch monitor. 2ms response time for gaming, 1080p. I've never used a 27" 1080p monitor so I can't comment on pixel pitch, but if you want a 27" LED backlit monitor under $350 for gaming that's your best bet. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236103&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=4176827&SID=1q18nzi483aym

It depends on the distance you're sitting from. I have a 27 inch 1080P monitor and don't experience the problems you mention above that you claim 23 inch monitors don't have. I sit about 40 inches from my monitor, I can't imagine having a smaller monitor. I feel that the 27 inch is too small actually. Ideally a 32 inch would be perfect from my viewing distance.

Same here, I also have a 27 inch at 1920x1080 and don't notice any jagged lines. I do use 2x-4x AA if the game looks ok with it. I'm thinking same as you also, 27 inch is great, but I could actually use a bit larger.

Seems the prices are kinda high for the higher res monitors, I guess they'll drop sooner or later.

That Dell monitor is sweet, but even paying half that would be hard to justify.

The best monitors that I have seen and used are the Asus vg236, Benq 2420t and the Samsung 27" 950 series. 120 hz is where it's at if you love shooters and have the horsepower.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am a real gamer, I play bf3 and SC2 all the time. Also have a bunch of games waiting for a new graphic card before playing because I want to play them on ultra. Anywho, if a 27inch screen is that bad, I can go 23-24 if you think it's best. The reason I wanted a 27inch is because I currently have a 22inch and if I was to upgrade i'd make it a real difference you know what i'm saying.

Advertised response time does not matter. In reality, an LCD's response time is more like 16ms, at best.

You won't notice 5ms. If you're running a game at 60fps each frame is on screen for 16.6ms, so anything faster than that shouldn't make much difference.

With your budget you could always buy 2 monitors if you want mroe space.

ghosting is not an issue, the main problem with most lcds is input lag, which they have none. Also ghosting on 120hz isn't noticible.

I think the X model comes with 3d glasses or something, same display though. You could get the ASUS I have, it's cheaper, it's also brighter. I can't tell if there is input lag even when i vs my crt. But if you get a display, make sure you go with 120hz. All the 120hz panels are pretty good.

The TX has a few extra things the specs sheet dont say, the glasses for 1, the image processing chip is also a bit better (personal opinion, seen the monitors in person), that said, have you also looked at some IPS or PVA panels? just a suggestion.

Also, you dont replace monitors too often, spend the extra on a higher-end panel.

yeah so get a 120hz panel. The difference with 120hz far exceeds the difference of the viewing angles of an IPS panel.

Well I meant to say, I compared the T to the TX, I didn't need viewing angles for my IPS, I needed colour accuracy, and TN panels just couldnt provide that 6yrs ago.

If you don't mind just having a single DVI.

Some nice 27" 1440p monitors. Panels made by LG and used in iMacs and Dell monitors.

I have a 27" Asus VG278H 120hz monitor and love it! I agree that the Dell U2711 has great picture quality, but once you go 120hz you can't go back. It's quite expensive though because you're paying for the nVidia 3D glasses etc.

Yeah like I said, I couldn't compare any IPS panels cos they didn't have any on display, just those monitors were side-by-side and it was an easy comparison.

Whether you like it or not, that monitor can do 3d, and really the TX is just $50 more here (Australia), and thats a pair of glasses, I dont get why you wouldnt pay the extra when its so cheap.

Just get a 120HZ monitor that has less then a frame of lag. 1 frame =16ms. Most these days have 8ms and the best ones 6 to 4 ms of lag. Look at reviews and what not, and see what you like the best. You should be able to find a 23" for around $350.

They discontinued my Asus 26" 1200p monitor. :( I was planning to purchase two more for surround setup, with a GTX 680. My next step will probably be a 30-inch monitor, or I'll have to find a quality 1200p monitor so I could buy 3 of them.

Just get a 120HZ monitor that has less then a frame of lag. 1 frame =16ms. Most these days have 8ms and the best ones 6 to 4 ms of lag. Look at reviews and what not, and see what you like the best. You should be able to find a 23" for around $350.

sigh this is getting nowhere...Also to the OP, aren't you the one who said hes getting a gtx 680? A $500 card? And now you're complainging about spendin $50 more to get a quality monitor? You need to seriously re arrange your priorities.

Ok I don't know what youve been following but clearly you missed something. First it's not 50$ more that I would have to dishout for the BenQ XL2420TX instead of the BenQ XL2420T it's 100$+. Second, I am planning to get the BenQ XL2420T, which is the same exact thing then the BenQ XL2420TX except for the useless 3D crap. Third, it's not because I spend 500$ on a video card that I can spend another 500$ on something else. Is your philosophy something like this ? " Hey I got a 200k$ house so im gonna buy the 100k car that goes with it!". -sigh-

[QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"]are you a real gamer? Or some guy who thinks he is a gamar http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS471US471&q=BenQ+XL2420T&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=8310978259860736307&sa=X&ei=Vy6NT53cD67ZiALlyIiSCA&ved=0CFMQ8wIwAQ get this then if you are a real gamar 120hz less than 1ms of input lag, my asus has 8-12ms, but it's 120 and I still pwn

Is this the one you are talking about, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014270CVF For some reason the specs are different then when I check on BenQ.com Just wanna make sure I order the right monitor you know.

no, many 120hz displays have less than 1ms of input lag.

Does 120hz provide that much of a benefit?

I usually play with V-sync on at 60FPS to prevent screen tearing. Would having 120hz reduce the screen tearing and have it so I did not have to use Vsync?

yup no need for vsync with 120hz vsync at 60hz doesn't look as smooth as 120hz w/o vsync 120hz helps in all games, but most of all for fast fps like Quake. It helps most with weapons like the lightning gun, and it's very obvious difference. It's very difficult to lightning gun at 60hz especially at close range.

No you do need vsync no matter what the refresh rate. I had a 100hz CRT monitor and I still needed vsync on it.
