970 Running at half the frame rate.

Hey guys, Need a little help and don't know if this is the right place. Today my framerate cut in half with my 970. Running Driver Version 347.88 on GFE

Noticed it with dota going probably from 100-120 to sub 20 at times

as well as the witcher 2 going from 60-70ish to now 30-40

Specs

Here are my specs. Temperatures are running fine and I haven't had a CPU bottleneck before. I apologize if this isn't the right board to place this and mods you can close it if it is. Can anyone give me any insight to this?

Can you check the GPU clocks while this happening?

What is the best way to do that? Evga precision?

I don't know how to do this on EVGA precision but I know you can monitor your GPU with MSI Afterburner (you don't have to own an MSI GPU).

If the HWMonitor was able to record the clocks during your gaming then its clear that the problem is the 540MHz on the core.

Your GPU core clock should be more than 1050 or even more than 1178 while gaming. (My Gigabyte GTX970 reaches 1405MHz when I am gaming.)

Check if your GPU isn't set for maximum performance from nvidia control panel.

@Coseniath: It is set for maximum performance, I got it to work. It seems I had a kink in the whole system. I'm pusing a 100 FPS on witcher 2 now :/ It's the worst when you don't even know what you did to get there.

At least you learnt what was wrong! :P

easy, go to settings, then on the next box that pops up, go to user interface and on the user interface skinning properties chose the "Cyborg MSI Afterburner Skin"

But you should choose: "MSI Tech Afterburner skin by Drenex Design".

I use the MSI Dragon Army. Why not, it matches my mobo logo when I boot :P Too bad the MSI 970 was sold out when I bought my card, otherwise I would have bought one of those to.

Well, most of my GPUs were MSI! Some of my mobos too.

This time Gigabyte had a better version of GPU and MSI dropped their warranty here from 3 years to 2 years (while Gigabyte stayed at 3 years), so I chose Gigabyte.

MSI Afterburner however, still remains the best GPU tool! ^^

Yeah I found the problem was the fact I had the 4.0 version and not 4.1 version.
