electric and ethanol powered cars?
pros and cons?

My thoughts?
Make them affordable, reliable, aesthetically pleasing, and efficient and I'll buy. Pretty simple, I think.

Well until they start'a mak'um them in SUV's I ain't buyin' any. Hybrid, schmybrid, SUV or Pick-Up that's all I care about, maybe a Hummer variety as well for the weekend.
Hoobinator, the Toyota Highlander is an SUV. You should check it out. I'm sure there are other brands of hybrid SUV's as well.Ripcurl530
Pfft, I'mma thinking only of a Hummer Hybrid. Anything less just wouldn't be American of me.
GET A HYPBRID!!!!!!!
they are awesome
even though they are a couple grand more you will save so much on gas
if you use it for 2 years you will have the money back that you spent extra
also dont buy into the GM hybrids. they are a scam and the electric motor only powers the a/c and radio the gas mileage is still horrible
hybrids cost too much money and aren't worth it in gas savings for years. producing ethanol causes shortages in corn for food. electric cars need to be charged somehow so plugging them into the wall and recharging them using energy produced by coal power plants kind of defeats the purpose of gasoline free. some of them are so tiny they, and everyone inside, would be destroyed in an accident.shoeman12
actually youre wrong their
i did it in class today
it takes roughly 2 years for the costs to equal out (for the honda civic hybrid)
its around 4000 more minus the 2000 government rebate
they are definately worth your money and they save the environment!!!!!!!!!!
[QUOTE="Ryeferd"]I don't understand why they can't make them look like normal cars so people would buy them...KG86
I agree, I wouldn't be caught dead in one of them now.
They do have them in normal models. My parents just bought one and it looks exactly the same as a regular car. :|
Hybrids cause more damage to the environment than gas cars do. The mining for the nickel-cadmium is terrible for the environment and the processes that go into making the batteries themselves put out more pollution than a single car could ever hope to. famicommander
oh wow that is a great point
I don't understand why they can't make them look like normal cars so people would buy them...Ryeferd
YES!!! i think they r ugly. i want a hypbrid that is sporty and can drive fast. i drive a scion tc that gets about 25/29 miles to a gallon it cost so much $35 for a full tank.
[QUOTE="KillaHalo2o9"]Ethanol is just driving up food prices.darkIinkexactly! why are we doing this? I see sliced bread ON SALE for $2.50!

I agree, and most people would buy them but right now they the price is to high, they look bad etc.

What hybrids are you talking about? You know there's a Camry hybrid, Altima hybrid, Civic hybrid, SUV hybrids, etc... not just Prius. I don't think the Prius is that ugly either. It's just a thing to take you places after all.[QUOTE="Ripcurl530"]Hoobinator, the Toyota Highlander is an SUV. You should check it out. your kidding right....:|
if you want a gas guzzling hybrid you dont have to wait for a hummer hybrid look at the new tahoe hybrid. its a joke

ok considering EVERY hybrid on the market right now looks EXACTLY the same as its gas counter-part that argument is null and void. the only thing that MIGHT be SLIGHTLY different are the rims/wheels
ethanol we can all agree is not efficient because you cat transport via pipeline so the use of cars causes more pollution. plus it raises the price of food which is more important than gas
I have also heard hybrids may cause more pollution than regular gas cars but i cant confirm tha.
Eventually though, the price of oil will be so expensive and the alternative fuels will be more efficient because of advancements in research that it will make sense to use them. the free market will decide

Toyota or Honda have a nice looking hybrid of one of their mainstay cars. Like 46mpg too.
I own a Prius and I love it. I actually paid less than I would have for a comparable conventional car because of all the tax credits I got on it. I didn't pay state taxes in '05 and '06 because of it and I still had a little left to make this year's bill smaller.
So, really, the argument that they cost too much is blown way out of proportion.
Pros: they are more efficient.
Cons: You will probably need one when gas hits $10 a gallon (as it probably should be in the first place given its role in the world).
Other than that I wouldnt mind one for the tax deduction, but I'd rather have a muscle car from the 50's or something.

Hybrids use nickel metal hydride batteries, not nickel-cadmium. The environmental hazards for NiMH batteries is, apparently, much lower than NiCd batteries. Also, do you have any source for your second claim?
And hopefully Li-ion batteries will soon be cost efficient enough to use in hybrids/ev's.
I've taken my Prius to 100MPH so the 'it doesn't go fast' argument doesn't cut it either.ThaSod
Driving it off a cliff does not count. The acceleration in freefall is from gravity and not the Prius' engine.

hummer supporter? :roll:Nope. I don't see how making a joke labels me as a hummer supporter :|
