I hate MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook. I have a Facebook account, but I only use the chat. I got a special plugin for Pidgin so I don't even have to go to the site to chat with my friends. I haven't checked my page or updated my status since the day I got my account.

Just curious, but why do you hate these sites? I use Myspace and Facebook, but I don't have a Twitter. Anyways both of these sites are useful for connecting with bands / friends / co-workers etc. I have a friend like you who refuses to make a Facebook for no particular reason. Maybe you could share yours?

It's just all very "look at me". They are all clearly designed more for seeking attention than a means of communication. It's not nearly personal enough for communication, and it really only amounts to people pointlessly exchanging pleasantries and mistakingly thinking that other people care about the minute details of their lives in the forms of "Tweets" and status updates.

I agree that status updates everyday may be a little overwhelming and unnecessary, but I think you're stereotyping a little too much about it's users. Sure there are people that go out and add every person they've seen or spoken with for just a few moments, but there are plenty of others who use it for its true purpose. I know it's helped me stay in contact with friends from college while I'm back home and vice versa. It's also nice to see pictures that they've uploaded, whether I was in them or not. However, if you are talking about things like "Myspace trains" then I agree wholeheartedly that those are just a scam for attention.
