Let's assume that this life has similar or identical IQ to humans. How would this discovery affect you personally, and your outlook on humanity, if at all?

What aspects of your life would be affected? (Religious for instance, if say these beings also had their own religion and God)

The poll, and the answers for it may not be the most effective, so if your answer is more complex, just explain below.

I would think that it's pretty damn awesome, and probably get a little frightened at what sort of future that might bring.

It would affect me posivtively (assuming they are not hostile). It would be our chance to connect with another civilization and would greatly affect our outlook on life. Again assuming they are not hostile.

Yeah it would affect me positively unless they came to wreck s*** all over, then those jackasses would just be plain annoying.

I would devote even more of my life to science to the ultimate goal of invading and conquering our spacely neighbors.

It wouldn't affect me in any religious way since I'm an atheist but I'd probably have an obsession with them (wanting to learn everything I could).

Pretty much how I feel, I'd be overwhelmed with excitement and would be obsessed with them and their home planet. I'd probably be kind of upset if the technology for the public to visit their planet was a few hundred years off though, past my life time.

Nah, since I'm positive that such life exists even it can't yet be proved.

I wouldn't really be that fascinated unless the life was actually intelligent, unlike humans.

Really? The discovery of another civilization identical to our own on another planet would affect you that little? Interesting, I guess some people just aren't as big of a nerd as I am :p

I think it would be very cool and I'd love to see the positives that could occur thanks to us finding new life but it probably wouldn't change my outlook on life since I personally think with the number of planets and galaxies in the world that there must be life on other planets.

It depends entirely on whether we discovered them first.

That's not very nice.

The discovery would be mutual. We'd discover each other at the same time.

I don't think it would affect me personally at all, except that I would get to gloat and be like "Ha! Who's the crazy one now?" though the answer would still be me.

"Oh, cool. What do we have for dinner?" As long as I don't meet one of them or can buy a gaming console that they invented I can't imagine why it should have any effect on me. I mean, it's not like anything would change, we'd just be aware of their existence.

it would not only be life changing, it would the most fundamentally profound and definitive discovery in human history, finally it would mean we are not alone in this infinite blackness of space

I would think it was cool and want to learn more about them, but it wouldn't really affect me in a religious way. I would still be a Christian.

It wouldn't affect me, it would only prove something that I always thought there to be a 100% chance of life outside of earth when looking at the vastness of the cosmos.. There are 100 to 200 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy alone.. Each star may have upwards to hundreds of environments around it suitable for life.... And last time I checked the Hubble has a estimated that there are some 100+ billion galaxies visible from the Earth.. Those numbers are just mind boggling.. Furthermore recently scientists have discovered that a suitable habitat of life does not require to be within the goldylocks zone with the sun.. We have seen in deep underwater habitats of crushing pressure near the volcanic vents.. That life is flourishing there with no sun light.. They are getting their energy from the heat vents.. Meaning all a planet could need is a active core.

No it would not, though I would wonder what religons they follow and what are their core beliefs as well as morals. All I would think is "Okay, so since god failed at making a perfect being here on earth, he tried again somewhere else" imo. What am I susposed to think?Something like this cant be answered with a simple response. All I will do is pray to god that they dont see our holly wood films about alien invason and destruction of the earth. Easpecially if they arent out to rule/ destroy the universe.
