No, he would not. He would be more out of touch with the Internet than John McCain.
[QUOTE="harashawn"]He wouldn't be allowed, as he is not a US citizen.
Theokhoth
I'm sure the government would make an exception. I mean, it's freakin' Jesus!
ya or assuming this is his second coming and he was born again as a us citizen
this is a serious question. would Jesus make a good president assuming he were up to date with all the current news, policies, systems, governments, etc.raider1648
Yes. He has always been up to date on everything occuring. In fact, you could say he's ahead.
A dead man as President?Genetic_CodeFirst zombie president. America is making history again and again.
[QUOTE="UnrighteousFury"]Separation of church and state, anyone?
Theokhoth
No actual law of Separation of Church and State FTW.
Wow. My 8th grade history teacher was always saying how it actually never appeared anywhere in the constitution. I thought he was joking.
That certainly doesn't mean it isn't interpreted like that, though. And there's a huge number of cases that enforce it.

It more or less is in there, when it talks about protecting the rights of minorities with in the nation.. If we were to have a national religion, that would violate that idea, where a secular government is the only ground that can be taken.
I think conservatives would still call him socialist. Taking bread and fish, and sharing it with everyone (spreading the wealth). Raising lazareth from the dead (Free healthcare). Also, I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldnt favor waging war on Earth. Maybe he would battle satan, but he would probably frown on causeing death and suffering.Darthmatt
Exactly, its ironic that the Conservative party which has a deep Christian base, basically contridicts the basic teachings of Jesus in policy making.

It just shows you how much organized christian religions in the US have warped the core message of Jesus. Sad isn't it.The media would crucify him for being too liberal. He'd never be a serious contender to get elected, ironically especially by a lot of conservative "Christians."
Yeah, you see what I did there. Too soon?

That's actually unbiblical... The individual is to indeed to those things but Israel was told to do differently. According to their laws, the ideal government obtains no more than 10% of the money from it's people, helps the poor but you must work for your food, enforced moral law in not only it's on nation but others, etc. etc.

You couldn't just laugh and let it go... It's from Mad Magazine... what do you expect?Yes he would. The irony of all ironies is that he would probably be far too liberal and progressive for many people tastes, especially among those that call themselves 'conservatives' and Christians.
I could go into a small expose of how Jesus would end up being a danger to the present contingent interests of most countries, not just the US, not least economically and the economic policies favoured by Jesus, military and socially. Put it succintly he would change the status quo, which is in effect what most elites around the world seek to protect.

You're conflating the old testament and Jewish law with Jesus' teaching and the Gospel. Not that there's a massive difference, but Jesus came to change some of those laws which were entrenched to a certain time and place.

Who said they were different? In my view, the only difference between the Old and New Testaments is it being after Jesus' birth... which doesn't mean Jesus isn't in the Old Testament.
In matters dealing with the law, we realized we are too immoral to carry out some of it without being hypocrites...

Although many old testament laws have been accepted as part of the new testament and its teachings, suffice to say they are different. There are many laws in the old testament which Christians do not observe. Laws to do with the treatment of children, women, punishment accords etc. Jesus came to override some of these laws and implement new ones, it was reinforcement process as much as a change. Case in point Christians do not observe Sabbath, the Jewish holy days, and instead take Sunday to be their day or rest and worship.
Of an egalitarian tribal society perhaps but a huge capitalist nation? No. His personal beliefs don't lend themselves well to the politics of a large capitalist country.foxhound_fox
Capitalist nations will devour themselves.

It's all a matter of understanding why the law was established in the first place. An example being the punishments for certain actions like stoning adulterers. That is the deserved punishment but we are all likewise just as guilty. Either we do not kill them or we kill everybody... I think the former to be the better answer.
When all is said and done, Christians do tend to know which Old Testament laws we are to follow but we often disagree on why some differ. My view of the laws of the Old Testament is quite different than many people... so it's entirely possible few will agree with me on everything. Presbyterians, for example, believe there are different types of laws and only some types are followed. I keep them to all be the same type of law but some are not followed out in there fullest extent.
yeah, he would expose the wolf in sheeps clothing such john hagee of the evangelical church and people like him who say that they are men of god, yet are beating the drums of war which could be avoided altogether. jesus would also spend nothing on the military and so americans would be able to have a natonal health service that the need.ffaf666
