World not to end in 2012 after all?

So apparently the 2012 Mayan apocalypse theory could be off by anywhere from 50 to 100 years, meaning that the real date for the end of the ancient calendar could have already happened or not happen up to 100 years from now. I am disappointed, I was looking forward to our fiery doom. :(

This really isn't all that surprising to me. I wouldn't doubt if the year we live in isn't even really 2010 A.D. It might be 2013, 2019, 2020, etc.. There was enough chaos in the early to middle part of the 2000+ years since Christ to throw the whole thing off anyways, even if our understanding of the Mayan calendar is correct.

What I find most hilarious, is the Mayan mythology is construed to be an "apocalypse" when in fact it is the exact opposite. It is a "time of great change" where peace thrives and ignorance dies. Either way, thinking a dead civilization that couldn't even predict their own demise is going to be able to predict the end of the world is just silly.

Oh thank heavens, I was starting to get worried.

Superstitions are just absurd to me. If I got enough people saying that the world was going to end in 20 years due to a random ancient culture's beliefs, I think I'd just laugh my butt off.

I can't even imagine how many different civilizations or cultures prospected imminent doom by now that have been proved wrong. I would imagine it's a large number.

The skeptics are the first ones to go. :P But in all seriousness, its only a big deal because NASA predict around 2011 the sun will start emitting "stronger than usual" solar flares, that if they do make it here by 2012, all electrics, satillites, communications, etc will be inert. Airplanes will fall outta the sky, stock markets will crash completely, trading will be halted.

I don't necessarily believe it 100%, but if the sun really did produce a flare that big, it would be like a massive EMP bomb. Guess all we can do is wait really.
