Microsoft confirmed Windows 7 will be released on October 22. This is great for XP users and sad for Vista users.

i'll consider getting it if:
1. it lives up to its hype
2. its priced right.
its time for me to say goodbye to XP.
I will stick with vista for another couple years, nothing wrong with it really. Win 7 will most likely be on my next computer.
[QUOTE="Pirate700"]We wasted our money on a piece of crap that is now invalid. Why is it sad for Vista users?

The sad thing is Vista is great now. They finally patched it to the point where it's fantastic. I didn't waste any money as my rig came with Vista 64. I only hope 7 64 doesn't cost too much.
[QUOTE="FamiBox"]I have the Windows 7 testing thing running. Its around 1.5 gigs with some gadgets and a firefox window. 1GB in the minimum. So how many gigs of ram will you need to run this OS?
Surely not even more than Vista.

I have 6gigs of RAM so I should be ok then.

I'm worried about the games more than anything. I like the old 90s games and Vista 64 just couldn't run them.A name for what? Well isn't it supposed to have a name, like "Vista" and "XP"?[QUOTE="Head_of_games"]Any ideas for a name, people?Pirate700

It's no big deal. I just thought it would be something more than a number. But whatever, I'm stickin with my Mac anyways.[QUOTE="Head_of_games"]

I thought it was leopard.... Sorry I really don't know much about all this. Anyways, I'm not bashing anything. Carry on.Better for Vista users haha Windows XP is legendary =)jasopanI am still using Windows XP on my main gaming rig. The thing is that it is still the least hardware hungry as far as usage. Really since SP1 and even before I never really had a problem with it crashing or locking up. Windows XP is faster(menus, program loading, drivers are still better supported in XP to this date). There is no annoying UAC in windows XP. I think I can handle myself pretty alright. When I forced myself to use Windows Vista for a year I never ran into a situation where the UAC was actively helping me or steering me away from a wrong decision. The only thing I am not a fan of of Windows XP is that it doesn't support DX10 since I have a fairly recent nVidia 9800GTX+. Oh, and even XP's user interface is not bad. I have tried that skining stuff in the past from stardock and such but I am currently rolling with the Fisher-price blue xp theme and I am fine with it. I guess when I am upgrading operating systems I always ask... what am I really gaining from moving?
Windows 7 looks exactly like Vista. It has the exact same features, interface and layout.
The only noticable difference is that it boots faster and shuts down faster.
And if you want to, you can download a Windows XP Emulation loader for Windows 7 and run programs that work better in XP on a Shell without having to boot XP from a partition.
But if you keep your PC running 24/7 and have a copy of Windows XP on a partition, then Vista users aren't missing much.
---If you have Vista, stay with Vista.
---If you have XP, wait for Windows 7.
It's that simple.
And so I have successfully skipped Vista. Yay! Vista always reminded me of Windows ME and I didn't like it. It was so...bloated. Been hanging on to XP.
Does anyone know if Windows 7 supports the classic joystick port (as found on old Soundblaster Live cards)?
1Gb of ramSo how many gigs of ram will you need to run this OS?
Surely not even more than Vista.
