Microsoft confirmed Windows 7 will be released on October 22. This is great for XP users and sad for Vista users.

i'll consider getting it if:

1. it lives up to its hype

2. its priced right.

its time for me to say goodbye to XP.

I for one am glad that Microsoft chose to continue supporting XP SP3 until 2014.

I will stick with vista for another couple years, nothing wrong with it really. Win 7 will most likely be on my next computer.

Meh. My laptop will probably be too old to run it well, my Mac obviously has no use for it...And if I was in the market for a new computer I'd get another Mac. I am glad they are quickly ditching Vista, though.

The sad thing is Vista is great now. They finally patched it to the point where it's fantastic. I didn't waste any money as my rig came with Vista 64. I only hope 7 64 doesn't cost too much.

I'm worried about the games more than anything. I like the old 90s games and Vista 64 just couldn't run them.

10.6 is technically Leopard, but it's still OSX = Operating System 10. Leopard denotes the version...Kinda like a Service Pack for Windows OS's

Better for Vista users haha Windows XP is legendary =)jasopan
I am still using Windows XP on my main gaming rig. The thing is that it is still the least hardware hungry as far as usage. Really since SP1 and even before I never really had a problem with it crashing or locking up. Windows XP is faster(menus, program loading, drivers are still better supported in XP to this date). There is no annoying UAC in windows XP. I think I can handle myself pretty alright. When I forced myself to use Windows Vista for a year I never ran into a situation where the UAC was actively helping me or steering me away from a wrong decision. The only thing I am not a fan of of Windows XP is that it doesn't support DX10 since I have a fairly recent nVidia 9800GTX+. Oh, and even XP's user interface is not bad. I have tried that skining stuff in the past from stardock and such but I am currently rolling with the Fisher-price blue xp theme and I am fine with it. I guess when I am upgrading operating systems I always ask... what am I really gaining from moving?

From the article; "The tech guarantee program is not beginning immediately, but Microsoft did raise the possibility it will offer some sort of lower-cost upgrade to those who are already using Windows Vista. " Wow, this quote is kind of sad to see so many people with Vista getting the shaft. I am not sure why Microsoft has not just said...well yeah, we failed but we would love you to stay with us, so here is Windows 7 for free if bought Vista... Period the end! Vista is still a crappy OS no matter if they are on their second service patch or now. I mean anyone remember XP's second service patch? That right there was the end all be all. There was not too much to be said in a negative light about XP, even the smallest things were addressed. Vista, not so much...

Except for the period between XP and Vista, Microsoft has always released a new OS every couple of years. How is this bad for Vista users?

I'll wait to see the pricing and more importantly watch what happens in the 1st few months as far as customer comments. I don't like Vista, but *knock on wood* it's working for me right now..

I'll stick with Linux. I have two laptops and a desktop, and they're all running different Linux distributions. Ubuntu, Fedora, Xandros, Puppy Linux, etc. I have XP on ONE of my computers for gaming, but I haven't booted into it in ages. Ubuntu is just so much...better. Aside from major gaming, I can do anything in Ubuntu that you can do in Windows and more... except I can do it faster, with less hassle, and while using less resources. If you're looking to switch away from Windows or Mac, Ubuntu is a wondeful Linux distribution to learn with.

Windows 7 looks exactly like Vista. It has the exact same features, interface and layout.

The only noticable difference is that it boots faster and shuts down faster.

And if you want to, you can download a Windows XP Emulation loader for Windows 7 and run programs that work better in XP on a Shell without having to boot XP from a partition.

But if you keep your PC running 24/7 and have a copy of Windows XP on a partition, then Vista users aren't missing much.

---If you have Vista, stay with Vista.

---If you have XP, wait for Windows 7.

It's that simple.

Sad for XP users, Happy for Vista users. Vista users can upgrade directly from Vista to Windows 7 and keep their files. Windows XP users have to do a new install.

And so I have successfully skipped Vista. Yay! Vista always reminded me of Windows ME and I didn't like it. It was so...bloated. Been hanging on to XP.

Does anyone know if Windows 7 supports the classic joystick port (as found on old Soundblaster Live cards)?

I think I will just stick with my Vista, until the day comes I need a new computer, which will probably have Windows 7 on it, by that time.
