At the begining of the year when the prices began to rise I thought it was because of the unrest in the middle east. Whether thats still the case or not Idk. But who thinks we will be paying 5 to 6 dollars a gallon by the end of the year? Im hoping they will begin to drop but im doubting that more and more.

What are your thoughts on the prices OT?

Of course they will go back. This isn't the first gas spike.

They will come down again but I have a feeling they will go up a little again before down.

Did I say they would? Gas hasn't been $1 in our lifetime unless you're in your late 30s. Hell it's impossible for it to go less than that here in CA because an entire dollar/gal here is just taxes (.50 fed .50 state).

They'll eventually go back down, I heard that by summer it'll hit $5, which is bad, because how is anyone going to be able to have money to pay there bills, feed their families and go to work? Im definitely hoping that it doesnt get that high

When the last big spke hit a few years ago when it got this high, I made a road trip from CA to CO and the gass prices out in the middle of the dessert were almost $6/gal. It was nuts.

I didn't say that you said that they would... I'm 23 and I can remember $1.19... I don't think it'll ever be under 2 tbh...

As long as we have $1/gal just in taxes (which is absurd) we will never dip below $2 again. It will come down to high $2s again but it will be a while.

I don't think it'll drop until the end of summer, or until Libya starts calming down.

...What? If you have a 20 gal. tank and fill up once a week, $5/gal. vs. $4/gal. will only cost you an extra $80 a month. If that prevents you from paying bills or feeding your family, you probably shouldn't own a car. I'm pretty sure most European countries already pay more than $5/gal., anyway...

As long as they have Libya to use as a scapegoat, they'll continue to rise. Then they'll dip down again after a year or so, with enough protests.

Exactly. There is no reason for the prices to go up over this. It's just an excuse. Once sales dip (and they will) the prices will magically fall like a rock.

It kinda (okay; seriously) pisses me off that they're using Libya as an excuse to gouge their prices in the first place. Nobody with an iota of sense would believe that Libyan unrest is actually depleting our oil to such an extent.

Where was the spelling of paid taught differently from what I and everyone else was taught? Payed is incorrect.

I am 30 and about a week after 9/11 i purchased some sub 1 dollar gas in rural Georgia. It was only like that for about a week though. Probably some pity price or them trying to give people incentive to stop hiding in their homes watching the TV.

Gas pricing fluctuations are a scam and a fairly obvious one at that. Say it starts at $3.00 and everyone is up in arms about it. It climbs to $3.75 and people get hysterical. Later on it falls back down to $3.25 and people start talking about how much cheaper the gas has been recently. Completely oblivious to the fact that in reality they are paying 25 more cents per gallon than they were back when they were furious about having to pay $3.

This trend continues until eventually they are charging $5 a gallon and people are happy to be paying it because it was so much worse when it cost $6 a few months before.

no offense but I really don't care. If google doesn't catch my spelling errors, then it's getting spelled incorrectly.

They'll go back down, but they won't go any lower than like $3.25. We'll all say that's very reasonable when really it's not. We could be saving even more money on gas if we didn't force the refiners to make 20 different blends of gasoline.

Really? I remember gas prices hitting 89 cent at one point during Clintons term. Though it was short lived as Bush took office....
