Google is forcing youtube users to join their failed social network site Google+ in order to make comments/ messages on youtube videos. I used to comment all the time, but the times have changed unfortunately, thanks to this pathetic update.

What do you guys think of this update? Do you like it? Do you dislike it?

There's a petition with over 39,914 signed if anyone is interested.

Save Youtube

I'm cool with it. Google+ is much better than Facebook, I wish more people would use it.

They know it failed horribly and are padding their numbers with dormant accounts

Definitely disagree with this. If anything, Google is destroying everything they're touching.

I stopped using YouTube forever ago because every damned time I signed in to post a quick comment I'd be met with some message saying they wanted me to make a gmail account before I could proceed, or give them my phone number, or send a verification email, or give them my real name. Every damned time, it was always something.

I know, I mean talk about forcing your services on people. It's bloody pathetic. They should offer it as a choice, not a mandatory change. Will they listen to everyone who wants it back to normal? Pfft, what, do you think they have a heart? They'll ignore everyone just like every change that happens with Youtube while proving themselves to be the perfect definition of the statement 'deal with it'.

For people that have a problem with Google asking for your real name, I think you can create a Google+ Page as your YouTube Channel without creating a Google+ itself and then it will stop asking and you can just use the Google+ Page as the YouTube Channel name in order to make post anonymously.

@wis3boi: It's funny how pretty much everyone has a Google+ account, yet many of then don't even know it.

Petition for Google to change this shit: http://www.google.com/intl/en/about/company/facts/locations/

They used to be all about our privacy (remember SOPA/PIPA last year?). What happened to that?

Now they're forcing a Google Plus account down our throats to comment on the Play Store and now YouTube as well, not to mention slowly ruining Google Chrome.

I just simply stopped leaving comments on youtube vids. I'm not even clear on what Google Plus is. If it's some facebook bullshit, no way would I sign in with Google Plus just to leave comments. Next thing you know, youtube will become a subscription paysite with monthly / annual fees needed to watch, post vids or leave comments.

I really blame the original youtube owners for giving in to greed, selling out to Google for a few million dollars. Youtube, similar to gamespot is becoming a shadow of it's former self.

Google allows us to do all kinds of things for free that used to cost tons of money, so I hate to be too hard on them.

This. Though, it won't ever happen. Facebook is a household default name for social media like "Nintendo" is for gaming consoles.

I don't get the new reply system on YT, I think I am missing something. Before you could see the conversation, now the link just opens a new window of that video and doesn't jump anywhere.

They are planning on launching a subscription music service like Spotify. Considering so many people already illegally upload music to the site unabated, it's about time they capitalize on what people want.

If it were illegal to upload music to youtube the videos wouldn't be there. And some uploaded music does get block, but most of it is legal to post. Fair Use and all that good stuff.

They don't actually moderate everything. I've seen boobs, and pornography(private URL) on youtube. Google tries to comply with viacom, but they can't be 100% anal about it.

Engaging in youtube comments is the last thing I want to do so it doesn't bother me much. As long as I can continue to watch videos I don't mind.

What isn't? The uploaders aren't making any money off of it, so why does it matter? Most bands upload their own songs anyways, and some even put up every song.

I keep telling them it sucks and to stop being so persistent about it but they've only done the opposite and shove the whole thing down my throat without a choice.

People want simplicity, user friendly services and freedom of expression. If people like the music, dedicated fans WILL spend money point blank. The RIAA is shit right now because of the pointless war waged against so called "illegal uploads" when they are not really affected by it. You can see how little effect these "illegal up/downloads" has when you look at all the marketing money wasted on Lady Gaga videos, crap music awards ceremonies, etc.

Groups like Metallica bitching about an unreleased demo being leaked no one cared about except loyal fans, weirdo artists like Prince whining about copywrite claims on audio snippets used in a harmless fan made video is all ridiculous, especially if the poster credits the artist in the vid description.

Trust me, for every wall companies like google try to put up, capitalizing off of greed, people will always either find a way around it or simply stop using the services. They all deserved to get shitted on any way possible because they forgot the fans made them what they are are today.

Back on the subject, this video pretty much sums up the general consensus of the new youtube comment system.

Well Google is using its leverage of being the owner of one of the most popular and content-rich website in the world. Its a sound business strategy that may not please you nevertheless.

I still can't believe people comment on videos in YouTube and would make the effort of engaging themselves in nonsensical and absurd bickerings and squabbles. I sometimes go over the comment section of a video and the things I see there...

They're pushing Google+. I'm sure this tactic will gain a decent amount of Google+ users
