Why do people find September 11 jokes funny?

Granted it has been over 10 years, but lately I have been subject to several jokes and I can't help but be offended. Everything from wow must have been Stevie Wonder steering the plane to dropping like its hot faster than jumpers out the windows of the world trade. Does anyone else think this type of humor is insensitive or is it time america gets over it and uses laughter as part of the heeling process?

question did 9/11 effect you? because i shrug the jokes off and sometimes chuckle and 9/11 took my father away from me my whole childhood and more.

Jokes are made about every awful event in history. A lot of times I feel "I probably shouldn't be laughing at this...but f*ck it, it is hilarious"

The jokes in the OP are just bad jokes even if you discount the offensiveness of them.

I have a photoshop class I'm taking where what work you submit the teacher will show on a tv. Someone submitted a picture of the world trade center on fire in a gif. Some kid next me started busting up laughing so I couldn't hold back from scolding him in front of the whole class.

It just hits us harder cuz it happened to us while we were alive.

The same people who get mad at these jokes probably laugh themselves silly at holocaust/WW2 jokes..Just happend, people are like that.

The only joke I find funny about 9/11 is that people still believe terrorists did it because they hate our freedoms. People's ignorance is always funny.

If you don't identify with the catastrophe, you won't have any issue laughing at humour that is based on it. Think about jokes regarding Middle Eastern terrorists being killed. There's a good chance that you'd find them funny because you don't care about those people. In fact, you may well want to see them dead. There are some people who hate Americans enough to find it funny when tragedies strike them, but for the majority, it's likely that they just don't care about the people, and so they focus only on the humour. That even goes for some people who SHOULD have a vested interest in what happened (like Americans). Many are simply no longer emotionally affected by what happened.
