I was out in public today and fell into a discussion with a group of men about local politics. The issue of the "IN GOD WE TRUST" signs that were recently installed on our courthouse came up. (Yes, all caps, check it:)

All I said was "It's a courthouse, not a church" and suddenly I'm Satan his own self or some shit.

It's like the Christian Gestapo around here, I swear. These people can't have a debate with anyone with a different viewpoint without threatening damnation and hellfire and accosting you with prayer.

I grew up in this town and it was never like this until Obama was elected.

It's Obama's fault, isn't it?

Well, one thing's for sure: I'm not voting for that bastard a third time.

I have no idea why they would flip out like that. I'm a Christian, but I try to keep that to myself and I don't get angry when people make comments like that. As long as they aren't being rude and offensive, I'll respect their opinion and any comments on my religion.

These are people who are trying to get those signs on every public building. They are on the courthouse and firehouse (of all places) right now. They're damn-near militant in their insistence that America is God's own. It's disgusting.

Anyone else find the that picture of everyone gathering and singing to be eerily creepy?

Nothing but denim and a red/white/blue motif. Almost seems too tacky to be real. Guess that's the 'real' America.

I fully support freedom of speech and religion, but I honestly believe, and this is my own personal opinion, that religion does not mix well with the government, politics and the military and it's best to just keep religion out of everything related to the government. If a business owner wants to hang religious signs and items around his store, then I say go ahead. But forcing your beliefs on the public is just going to cause trouble.

Because God = Pride. So when you insult god and anything related to god, you hurt a christian's pride, possibly hurting their self-esteem in the process. It's normal that they start raging, it's their pride kicking n.

Because they have been raised to think of their beliefs as literal facts and that anyone who thinks/says otherwise is factually wrong and must be shown why they are wrong.

Really, it shouldn't matter to them at all.

"In God We Trust" is one of the worst mottos you could ever have for a country which prides itself as a "melting pot" of various cultures, as well as having "freedom of religion". Not only does the motto heavily imply that you must believe in a God to be a "true American", it labels that deity specifically as "God", leaving out what many people of non-Christian religions refer to as their deity.

They'll try to argue that it's just a general deity, but we all know it's not. The motto needs to go back to the original. This one is not only against a lot of values that America has prided itself in, but it is also flat out embarrassing, because it was nothing more than an "immature" move by the government to the Red Scare and the Cold War. Many of the Christians want to think that this motto is something to be prideful of, but they really need to look deeper. It's just flat out embarrassing.

I guess some of those "policies" were adopted from Christianity.

I really don't know how that applies today in society. The law is black and white, and the only one judging your sentence is the Judge.

Well at least they're singing. Some groups would just bomb the place. Or perhaps buy it. Or not give a shit.

Well in my Opinion (and Experience).

Christians get enrage so easily because almost anything we do that might give them an idea that you're against them and their God. In return. They think we are denying what they believe. Their reaction is that. We are bad, satanic and therefore enemy in their eyes.

Well in your case is more of uh I don't know, tolerant maybe. I just remembered in my experience that in my school. They let the Class watch Passion of the Christ. Everybody is crying about it except me. then They saw me. asked if why I wasn't Crying. I said "I don't buy that".

Then bam! Get branded of a Bad Satanic Fellow who don't believe in God. So far they can tell me all they want. ain't gonna stop me from Chillin' out.
