I know there considered horrible but why exactly. I havent seen them since I was a kid and I thought they were good, but again, I was a kid. I never watched the originals but I have been thinking of watching all of them. I was just wondering if you guys could explain to me why the prequels suck. Please try to stay away from spoilers because I want to watch them again and I forgot what happened in them.

The first two basically were catering to children. Lucas could have made them into something great.

seriously if darth vader comes after you you just give him some penicillin and he loses all his powers.

Bad writing, boring characters, bad dialogue.

I would suggest watching redlettermedia tear them apart.

Because there was no one around to keep Lucas in check. There are glimpses of his insanity in the original trilogy too, although it's at his best with Lucas does not have full control.

It may be the fact that English is not my first language, but I never understood what exactly was SO wrong and awful about that line.

In my opinion,

"You're beautiful."
"It's only because I'm so in love."
"No, it's because I'm so in love with you."
"So love has blinded you?"
"That's not exactly what I meant."

is the worst piece of dialogue in the whole prequel trilogy, and quite possibly the worst piece of dialogue ever written, EVER. I cringe every time I hear it.

Poor dialogue writing and poor stroyline execution on Lucas's part. Seriously, Episode 1 isn't writing, it's like Lucas vomited through a pen. Go watch a Red Letter media review on the prequels and it will point out all the faults...with epic comedy :D

It was 6 hours, more or less, of what equated to being pinned down and being forced to watch as one megalomaniacal director screamed that Santa is your parents, Sesame Street isn't a real place and that Peewee Herman is actually a kiddy fiddler.

The acting and dialogue is absolutely atrocious. It's not only distracting but makes it very hard to take the characters seriously. And then there's Jar Jar Binks. And it's far too cute and cuddly and just downright childish. Combat droids that say "Rodger Dodger"? Ewwww.

To be fair, it's not really the actors' fault that Lucas' writing was so atrocious. I think they did a decent job with the material they were given.

Looking beyond the whole Jar Jar thing that everyone complains about the first movie isn't so bad. The second one is wayyyyy too dramatic for it's own good. The third one is really just great in it's own way. The thing is though they just cannot match the originals in quality and greatness.

Only one I found the most dull at times and thus the "worst" in my opinion was the second prequel movie. The positive about it, everything besides the "romantic parts. The worst part, "The romantic" parts. I say "Romantic" as I felt more like it was watching a overly horny man lways trying to get it on with a a elderly woman with questionable self-control. It felt tacky and just cheap.

Oh my bad. They were one of a kind back then. There's been way too many similar movies since then and that takes away from what they could have been. It's not so special anymore. Not to mention everyone has known how it ends for the last 30 years :)

The prequels would be much better if it was less about politics, Jar-Jar and more about the relationship between Anakin and Obi. That would have given Episode III more emotional impact.

Piss-poor acting, made it "kid-friendly" (i.e. Jar Jar, "cute" characters, etc), Midi-chlorians ruined the mystery of the force, love scenes were cheesy, writing was crap, and certain plot elements were just not right (i.e. a kid podracing).

The selection of actors and actresses were great and the battles were the best part of the series. It's just that George Lucas really screwed it up. Even when there was a re-release of Episode 1 without Jar Jar Binks, it wasn't that great.

Just really bad writing. The movies I guess where great when I was a kid and still somewhat okay today. Besides I wasn't alive when the originals came out. (But I watched them so don't tell me to gtfo)

I personally liked them, especially Revenge of the Sith, but overall they aren't as good as the original trilogy. I feel like the biggest problem with the newer prequels was Hayden Christenson being cast as the most important character in the entire prequel trilogy, and him being possibly the worst actor on earth. Overall though, the story is solid and they are great films imo.

Jar Jar, there's no chemistry between the characters, the CGI work was worse than the models/paintings they used in the originals and there was no consistency with the new universe as opposed to the old ones, the dialogue was laughably bad, poor acting, poor casting. Lightsaber fights were all flash and no substance. The explanation of how the force worked.

And on and on.

I feel like the prequel films could have played on the buddy cop genre a bit. Cracked.com said it best. like butch cassidy and the sundance kid, only in space with jedi. Obi-wan and anakin are jedi partners solving problems in space, the clone wars happen (in this case, an army of cloned sith against the jedi and republic army), obi-wan has an affair with padme (which turns anakin to the dark side when he finds out), then the emporer assumes power and wipes out the jedi. that was the basic idea. just a really dark trilogy depicting the downfall of anakin and the republic from the beginning of the saga. If also established anakin and obi-wans friendship from the beginning, by showing them actually acting like friends and watching each others backs in battle. This would have made anakin's downfall much more hard-hitting and emotional since it would concern a life-long friendship ending horribly and gives anakin more of a reason to turn to the darkside (him being betrayed by obi-wan and padme's affair being the main wedge that drives them apart)

what we got instead was 2 kid-appeal CGI-fests and 1 suddenly really dark movie that shoehorns anakin's downfall into the second half of the film. And the effect of anakin turning into darth vader doesnt have much of an impact since we dont actually see obi-wan and anakin acting like friends to each other untill right before the point in which obi-wan leaves to fight grievous. Up untill that point, the only interaction the two had was something more akin to a teacher and his student (since thats what they basically were) rather than 2 really good friends. ergo, the whole "you were the chosen one! you were my brother anakin! i loved you!" part doesnt have much of an impact since we never actually seen obi-wan and anakin just "chilling" like real friends would.

That is what i think was wrong with the prequel trilogy. Just too much kid appeal and bad characterization.

What? The originals were awesome (aside from VI: "The attack of the teddy bears") but even it had its moments. Star Wars launched an entire industry that lasts to this day as well as having become a huge part of popular culture. You don't do that without have done something right.

The first problem.. It had Anakin in every single one.. People like to bad mouth Jar Jar, but he was a side character and MEANT to be a comic relief.. People may have hated him for it, but at least he wasn't like Anakin who not only had akward lines but was just flat out dumb.. I face palm when I hear people claim that Episode 3 was great.. It was freaking AWFUL, Anakin's sudden and dramatic turn was extremely shallow and dumb.. And my favorite "I have the high ground!".. What a anti climatic and STUPID way to end basicaly the climax of the entire trilogy..

Ugalde-

Because qualitatively, they don't compare to the original trilogy at all. It's already been stated, but he was allowed to do pretty much whatever he wanted in the new ones and what Star Wars fans got wasn't exactly high quality. By the 3rd movie, he kinda got better, but by then most of the damage was already done. If you want to really know what happens in the time before episode 4, watch the Clone Wars cartoons by Genndy Tartakovsky and then watch episode 3. Don't bother with episode 1 or 2, they're basically lame filler/love stories with no purpose.

There's a reason he retired.

And go watch the first 3. I still don't know how people can NOT see these. They're on some channel every weekend it seems like.
