My vote would probably go to Dave Mustaine...Rust In Peace was such an amazing CD and IMO they never put a bad CD. Also, their new CD is straight up thrash metal again. This isn't about best guitarist it's about your favorite!

Didn't Marty Friedman under Mike Clink's producership make that album? Mike often said that Marty was "all over the place" , and he did his best to make Marty's riffery fit in with great effort. The mastering of RiP was a mess, with too many highs and not enough lows or mid-scoop. Countdown was the first album where Mustaine and Friedman really gelled, and their finest effort was Euthanasia. My vote would probably go to Dave Mustaine...Rust In Peace was such an amazing CD and IMO they never put a bad CD. Dave wrote most of Megadeth's music, but there is no denying Marty's talent. Check out his solo CD "Loudspeaker" it's all musical and amazing. Sorry abou the options guys but it's impossible to please everyone!

I am well familiar with Friedman's solo efforts, but I just feel that RiP was more of an experiment with talent than a solid album. I'd just as soon take Chris Poland and So Far, So Good, than random Mixolydian and Aeolian riffery that seems completely out of place.[QUOTE="immortality20"][QUOTE="compost-mentis"] Didn't Marty Friedman under Mike Clink's producership make that album? I can't argue. It is still a great album, despite the seeming awkwardness of it:)Slash to me is the greatest guitarist. MercifulKiller
I don't think Slash is that great. He just happened to be the guitarist of the second greatest band of all time.
I'd agree. If there was an "other" option, I'd vote Malmsteen.Out of your list, Viva La Dimebag!!
All-time: Jimi "Freakin" Hendrix

From the poll I would go with anybody except Zakk Wylde. I hate his annoying squealing all over the place. For every squeal I demand he spend an hour with Fred Durst and talk about baseball caps.
John Petrucci. All of those guitarists are overrated.aaronmullan
The hypocracy is too much for me haha

None at all. I think they're overrated and that's my opinion. John Petrucci isn't overrated to me. No hypocrisy at all.Mustaine of pre Countdown to Extinction, Bellamy from his Origin of Symmetry Days.Neon-Tiger
He's still an amazing guitarist, but you're right. That's their best album. Citizen Erased and New Born FTW.
My favorites are Matt Bellamy, Jimmy Page, Hendrix, David Gilmore, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Brian May from Queen (one of a kind sound) and Gary Richrath from REO Speedwagon (not one of my absolute favorite bands, but this guy could PLAY).
Off that list though, Zakk Wylde. He and Randy Rhoads were always Ozzy's best axemen.
Out of that list I really like Mustaine and Friedman but I'm going to go with Mustaine.
As for my top favorites, the man in my sig SteveVai. Followed by GuthrieGovan and JohnPetrucci
That guy is amazingly versatile. Not a virtuoso in the style of Vai or Satch, but much more interesting. Not only a good guitarist, an amazing musician as well.Jack White, mainly because he can play $10 guitars like they were worth 100 times as much.

I never found him to be arrogant he's just a serious guy, overrated I don't know about that, I just know I love his stuff with Dream Theater and his Solo album even more. Slash, now that's truly an overrated guitarist.[QUOTE="WushuFighter"][QUOTE="aaronmullan"] None at all. I think they're overrated and that's my opinion. John Petrucci isn't overrated to me.
