FDR was prudent. He didn't enter the war until he had to, and he did give support to the Allied forces in Europe prior to the US officially entering the war.

I do knock him down for passing the legislation for the internment of Japanese-Americans, though it's not like he could do anything about it, kinda like the situationEisenhower and McCarthy. Well, maybe Eisenhower could have done something about McCarthy, but the same idea. >_>

George Washington:

He led the Continental army during the revolution.

He was offered god for life (king) and instead wanted a democracy.

He didn't join any political party because he saw how BS they were.

He could of easily gotten elected for a third term but he thought 2 terms was long enough for one man, and didn't want anyone to become too powerful.

Abraham Lincoln for getting shot by John Wilkes Booth and inspiring that painting (you see their faces, its hilarious).

But, in all seriousness I say Truman for having the balls to drop a nuke on Japan (wrong or not). He stopped the advancements of Communist Russia on Japan. Basically started the Cold War by saying back off you Commie bastards!

I used to like FDR because I was a WW2 buff and he did well during US participation in the war, but then I understood government better and realized that he was glorified in history because we rallied around him a just war. He really floundered in the Depression, despite what many people think. Hell, look at the unemployment rates of the 30's, it never got below 14% I believe.

Then again, I can't argue with the prohibition repeal :D

From what I understand of economics, Clinton didn't hurt the economy really, he just got the credit for a projected upswing that was predicted before he was even running.

Well, he didn't hurt it badly, thanks to Bush senior. But if you remember the slight recession we had at the beginning of the current Bush's presidency, that was a result of Clinton's backward economic policies...luckily, our current president cut taxes almost immediately and got us out of that pretty quickly. But mainly, yes Clinton just received credit for something he had no part in.

And to the guy above...the reason Bush sacrificed his presidency was that he told the American people to "read his lips...no new taxes." But he ended up having to pass a new tax and alter the tax structure to keep the economy rolling smoothly, which he knew would cost him his presidency (because voters don't have much foresight). We would have had a pretty significant financial fallout if he had not done what he did. Yes, he ran for president again, but he knew from the beginning he had little to no chance of winning...his advisors and political strategists will attest to that.
