My vote is for Nas's Illmatic.

So much vivid and thoughtful imagery, extremely clever but not reliant on punchlines, brilliantly constructed narratives, etc.

Lines like "laughing at baseheads trying to sell some broken amps" are just so effective at painting an picture of inner city struggle and sound amazing at the same time.

My vote goes to Illmatic too.

Even more, when I was watching The Wire, the lyrics for Illmatic just came to life for me. Brilliant and true.

Pink Flyod's Dark Side of the Moon. I'll add in Comfortably Numb as well even though I don't think it's on that album. Absolutely brilliant lyrics that discuss topics in a very cool imaginative way.

There is no pain you are receding

A distant ship, smoke on the horizon

You are only coming through in waves

Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I had a fever

My hands felt just like two balloons

Now I've got that feeling once again

I can't explain you would not understand

This is not how I am

I have become comfortably numb

That is just sick! Also throw a bone out to River of Deceit by Mad Season:

My pain... is self-chosen

At least so the prophet says

I could either burn

Or cut off my pride and buy some time

A head full of lies is the weight

Tied to my waist

The river of deceit pulls down

The only direction we flow is down

Down, oh down

My pain... is self-chosen

At least I believe it to be

I could either drown

Or pull off my skin and swim to shore

Now I can grow a beautiful

Shell for all to see

The river of deceit pulls down

The only direction we flow is down

Down, oh down

We'll miss you Layne Staley :(

underOATH had some really memorable and thought provoking songs, I was always super into their lyrical talent.

other than them though, I people will most likely hate on, but dylan's songs from blood on the tracks or highway 61 revisited, those are both great albums

I was always fond of Bloc Party's lyrics.
