Only if they are old and helpless, a young individual might probably be able toget some kind of job to pay for his daily meal and shelter if he spent some time looking for one instead of laying on the floor asking for money. :D
No, because I am an egotistical jerk (:P) who almost never carries change on him. That and I usually listen to music if I am walking by myself so it gives me reason to ignore the homeless as I pass by.
Nope, as long as I see them make an effort of actually getting up and doing something for a change. I hate liars too and I can easily detect them. Once this guy said he needed gas and his said his car was over there. I waited 5 mins and the car had already left from a different person. Looked at him straight into the eyes and told him to GTFO.
No, I don't know if they will use the money for food, alcohol, cigarettes, whatever.... Though, if I have a cash card from a popular coffee shop I give it. At least I know it'll be used on food.
Sometimes. If I'm somehow preoccupied - walking with someone or needing to get somewhere by a certain time - I'm much less likely to give them money. But if I'm on my own and there isn't anywhere I need to be soon, I might give them some spare change or a dollar. They probably need the money a lot more than I do, and it's a good way to buy off guilt.
at the metro station, close to where I work, there is a homeless person that hold the door. I try to give him 1-2$ every weeks, because he is not totally useless... or crazy
No, I used to before I moved to Seattle. But now they are everywhere on campus I must pass about 6 a day, I'd be broke if I gave them all some money. Plus it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth to give someone money for sitting on their butt and begging.
One times I'd never forget was when I was on a somewhat date with some chick and we stopped at McDonald's and some guy was walking up to us and I basically told him know before I heard him out because I thought he was asking for money, but after I understood what he said he turned around and walked away and sat by himself. He asked if he could have a few fries. I got up and gave him my whole thing of fries and he was mad happy. Usually I don't give homeless people my money, but occasionally I do, but if someone asks me for food I don't think I'd ever be able to turn them down.
Usually I refuse, but I've given to a homeless guy last month, although that was only because he's pretty old and has been homeless since I was a kid. Usually he spends whatever money he can to get on the bus and make use of the warmth.
There was this bloke who asked me for a pound so that he could get something from McDonalds as he apparently hadn't eaten in days. I was on my through town, so I had plenty of food on me. I offered him a choice of the bacon sandwich I'd bought fresh 5 minutes earlier, or a banana. He said he'd rather just go to McDonalds :roll: so I just told the guy to get stuffed and popped a pound into a collection box instead.
I've been pretty generous with giving them money, but sometimes when they don't show any appreciation such as even a mere thank-you I don't give them any more lol
I always give them some money, but that's because I hardly ever see it where I live. Now if I lived some place where you see it everday, I probably wouldn't.
