[QUOTE="Immortalica"][QUOTE="Iced_Earth_Rulz"]I forgot the name of the rifle but its supposed to take over the M16a in the US in a few years time if the tests go alright. Anyone know?Bloodbath_87
Are you thinking of the XM8?

That idea was killed. I'm glad...it really sucked in BF: BC :P.

Did the XM8 had some problem with melting after extended use and something to do with the grip... I think the G36's may have had a problem like that too.

I don't know what my favorite assault rifle is. D: I've only ever seen/held M4-type varients, a C9 (?) LMG (don't think I picked it up), a pistol, an AK 74 with no stock and a tankbuster rocket launcher thing at an airshow.

Maybe a G36 or G36K/E/C just 'cause, or an M8 because they look cool even if they may fail, or an L85/SA80 ('cause their cool) or the more recent modification of the AUG that was pictured earlier, or the FN F2000 'cause it looks cool an' such.
I really don't know.
And have played too much Battlefield 2.

Edit: Waitwaitwait, I choose AK 101. maybe not.

Can I pick sniper rifle and say VSS Vintorez 'cause is cute er somthing? O:

I've always loved the MP5, ever since playing SWAT on the PC years ago. AirGuitarist87

MP-5 is a submachine gun, not an assualt rifle though.

L85, British assault rifle. Of course, that's based off of Project Reality and Battlefield 2 gaming sessions. It looks so nice with that green. :DCyrax-Sektor

Then you should know in reality, L85, SA-80 is one of the most notoriously unrealiable assualt rifles in the world today, even more unrealiable than the M-16. Early version were know to jam when gears broke, the plastic furnishings melting in the sun or sand. rifle apatures getting clogged with dirt. Despite improvements, realiablity are still a issue. several years ago, the British government were even considering replacing it with the G-36. But local pressure prevented it.

Can't say I have a favorite but a good old AK is always good and you can't go wrong with a G3. Here is a picture of my gun collection a couple years back. A lot more expansive now but these were just on my photobucket account. Photobucket

After NZDF swapped to the poxy ass Steyr, we still had some FN-FAL's in the armoury, so we got to have a blast on those with some of the now redundant 7.62 ammo that got kept on base. A total people stopper if there ever was one.

My favorite is the FAMAS. I got to fire a fully automatic one and it was amazing. The gun is reliable, accurate (effective range 500 meters), 3150 feet per second muzzle velocity which is wicked fast, and 1000+ rounds per minute. Unlike most assult rifles it uses a blowback system instead of gas operated like the M16, AK's.

Edit: Did I mention build in bipod? Very handy!

Imo the AK-74 is better than the AK-47. The ammo is better (flatter trajectory, higher velocity and increased flesh wounds) combined with the AK's reliability =:D

In all seriousness, although I hate the way Israel acts and the blind eye the West turns towards them, they do make some great weaponry. (funded by the US taxpayer). Their new Tavor Assault rifle seems very impressive. IF they just got rid of the 5.56mm NATO round in favour of something with a bit more range, they'd be perfect.

Either the SCAR

The HK416

Or the XM8

All are great and far superior in every way possible to the current M4s being used by the US. Hell even the M468 is better thanks to the stopping power of the 6.8 round.

Plus all of them are flexable and come in diffierent variants for diffierent needs.

I would assume the majority of the people on this site can not really have an opinion on this matter because most of them haven't shot any of these rifles or any rifle at all.

The M16 is a great weapon for medium to long ranges but many engagements now are close quarters so i defnately prefer the M4.

UrbanSpartan125
wauw. The logic behind that assumption is so heavily flawed, i shouldnt have to point it out to you?

your right the SA80 has had problems but that was the first version the British Army now us the L85A2 which has be widely praised for its reliability and is attracting state Armies into adopting it now it performed well in the war in Iraq and is now performing well in Afghanistan to .

Problem with those is they stopped production in 94 so if you manage to get hold of one it'll be atleast 12 years old. I like the G36 but i'ld have to go for the AK simpley because you can't break it.

No matter how often I see the Ak, I always blush(Joking :/). Doesnt matter if there are better guns. Its reliable for its price and good at making holes. Acc. could be better but again price comes to mind and I say who cares. Plus its just sexy...Yup a gun is sexy. Figure that one out.

actually, iirc, guns (military guns I mean) are made in accordance with the Geneva convention, and the Geneva convention states that the purpose of guns is to "harm" or to take out of action. They hardly use the word kill or lethal.

This is why certain guns are not to be used against humans because they are too lethal (i.e. 50 caliber rifles cannot be used offensively against humans, and why theyre refered to as antimaterial rifles) and why others have been entirely outlawed. The stats support this because if you look at the deaths against wounded, wounded is often triple what deaths are.

I know, its hairsplitting, but that is how it is supposed to be.

I guess in the military, although many powerful weapons are outlawed. In civil law (police forces) they're used to incapacitate, much like a stun gun/taser (used as a last resort if those fail, or if range permits).

While it is not a "true" Assault Rifle, as it uses the 30.06 rifle cartrige and it came 2 years before the Sturmgewehr, my favorite "automatic" rifle would have to be the Fallschirmjagergewehr 42.

It has many of the same characteristics as assault rifles of modern day. It used a rifle bullet, so therefore it was accurate enough to be used as a sniper variant, just as the G3 and Steyr AUG are sometimes used. It was also bi-pod deployable, making it like the RPK somewhat, as the RPK is a Kalshnikov 47 converted into a machine gun. Being so versitle, and just so unique. It is my favorite assault carbine, and one of my favorite firearms. After the Mauser Karbiner 98 Kurz of course...

I can see where you're coming from, but unless the Geneva Convention invented guns I stand by my statement.
