The year Citizen Kane and The Maltese Falcon were nominated, a movie called How Green Was My Valley won. Then the year Sense and Sensibility was nominated, Braveheart won. Driving Miss Daisy over Dead Poets Society and My Left foot is another great example. Lets not forget the year Crash won over Brokeback Mountain and the year Around the world in 80 Days won over Giant. So what do you think is the most undeserving Best picture winner? :D

EDIT: If somebody here says that Avatar should have won over The Hurt Locker, I'm going to kill a kittie cat

Whatever year it was, but Star Wars did not win an oscar.

No other movie should've won but that.

Not really at all. Forest Gump is certinally the better movie, and that's coming from someone who loves Pulp Fiction, I also must say American Beauty was amazing as well..I don't understand why so many people are disagreeing with that one. :?

Really though..The Oscars are as stupid and pointless as the VGA.

Usually I say Crash over Brokeback Mountain was the biggest travesty ever, but I did not know about Citizen Kane getting edged out. CK is the best movie ever, it not winning is the biggest travest ever.

It won over The Reader, Frost/Nixon, Benjamin Button and Milk. In that case the only one I think that really deserved it over Slumdog was Frost/Nixon and Benjamin Button, I think what was worse that year was that there where so many better films than Slumdog that weren't even nominated.

Chicago is the most obvious one. Also I dont think Return of the King shouldn't have won. Lost in Translation and Mystic River were far better films.

That's ridiculous. Pulp Fiction is the best movie of the last 20 years. I don't think Forrest Gump is even in the top 50.

I enjoy Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, and Pulp Fiction equally but if I were to vote for the best of those 3, it would be Pulp Fiction. I can watch it a million times and still be intrigued by the foot massage conversation, the cocaine overdose scenes, and several other cool scenes. :)

Of course its my opinion. But Pulp Fiction is clearly a better movie than Forrest Gump. And Pulp Fiction is widely regarded as one of the best movies of the last 20 years, Forrest Gump really isn't, at least not among the top 10 or 20.

No it is not "clearly" a better film, you just think it is. I prefer Pulp Fiction but no on can actually claim to know which is actually the better film other than just their opinions. Both are regarded as some of the best films in the past 20 years.

I just don't believe it deserves a nomination. The movie is way to long for a screenplay to run for so long, the acting was mediocre to decent, and the fact that Cameron wants to release a new version with 40 more minutes (making the running time 203 minutes long) bothers me. If a better screenplay writer wrote the script and Cameron took his job less seriously, the movie would have been much better.

EDIT: I also believe that Cameron is unable to direct a simple scene with 2 characters talking. he always needs to make the scenes huge and gull of effects, stuff, and visual material. Tarantino, Katheryn Bigelow, The Coens, and the guy who made District 9 (forgot his name) are far better directors.

I must admit that Rocky is a classic and it would be remember for a long time, but Taxi Driver is a far better movie. :)
