I'm going to need to buy a cabinet soon. Under 49 inches wide, with doors to keep out dust. Will probably have to order it, since I don't have a car.

I store my games inside a storage box. I don't really buy books. But the books I have bought in my lifetime, I store them either on the shelves or drawer
I use an old book shelf it's perfectly with plenty of space. Going to need as I plan on starting an ultra4k blu ray collection.
I have all of my CDs in these storage tote drawers. Two of them are full, they're both about the size of a kitchen sink. I have my random assortment of DVDs taking up space in an old dresser. The books I do have just kinda lay around on top of stuff lol.
@ezekiel43: I store them in my iPhone and e-reader because it’s 2019...
This thread wasn't for people like you, but I knew it was only a matter of time before you would butt in anyway. Many movies aren't even on streaming services. Discs also have better picture quality, and sometimes sound. But if you think "convenience" beats quantity and quality, then more power to you. I'll keep renting discs from Netflix and buying others so that I can choose whatever I want to watch.
Hard wood bookshelves for books, hard wood entertainment center with closed/integrated storage for discs.
Both my kids have book shelves that are 6 feet tall. There's also a 3rd one at the hallway. A 4th one in my den is less than half as tall. In fact, it's only 2 shelves. But, I only store my college text books there.
A cabinet under my entertainment center.
This is what I'm doing. Using what was formerly a TV stand, placed on the left now that the TV is wall-mounted. It's running out of space, though. I've got boxes behind other boxes.
The game I currently play if on disc stays in the console till I'm done, then its stored in my side of the cupboard. It's last gen or earlier it's stored in a plastic box filled with silica packets/moister removers. I don't tend to replay games unless I've got to move and am waiting for the internet.
I have two sets of shelves for my dvds, movies, and games. I have a proper book case for my books as well as two homemade "invisible" book shelves designed to look like they are just books hanging on a wall off nothing. Here's a picture of one.
Whether it be texts or discs, they take up lots of space on shelfs and book cases around the house. Real question is: it is even worth it to keep the hard copy of entertainment anymore?
Yes. Because the alternative sucks. I just picked up The Apartment at Best Buy, the Billy Wilder comedy from 1960. Only six bucks. I've seen it before, but that version looked bad for a DVD. It's not on Netflix. It's not on Hulu. Vudu sells it for ten dollars. But Vudu's quality is poor, from my experience. Why is it so damn hard to find reviews or opinions about Amazon's video quality? This Reddit thread is all I've found so far: https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/8d6d1s/did_amazon_prime_video_quality_turn_to_crap_this/
Anyway, Netflix has better video quality than Vudu, but their selection is far too limited. The solution pretty much is to pay for as many streaming services as possible. I don't see in what universe that's better than continuing to collect discs, even just at a reduced rate.
Boxes aren't big. How much space do you need? If everyone's now living in this all digital future, what the heck are they filling their homes with? Making room in one's home for art isn't necessarily bad, in my opinion. It also has monetary value, if that matters to you.
I keep what remaining game discs I have in a desk drawer for those with disc cases. For those without cases, I use a Case Logic album-type holder.

I usually fill my den/guest bedroom with mementos that mean a lot to me. Plus, some art work.
