What are some bands that changed for the worst?

You can call it selling out or simply you just didn't like the change here's some ones that come to mind for me what's yours?

When Richard Ashcroft left the Verve the quality dipped dramatically.

Only truly great song is Song For The Lovers.

RHCP, from "suck my kiss" to "music is my areoplane". ugh just ugh

How about U2? I don't really listen to them, but I've heard them.

Metallica is one,not the band that they once were.

Rammstein's a band that have come up with one of my biggest disappointment albums in a long time.

@brimmul777: disagree about Metallica, they are still awesome live they put on a great show, and there last album was thier best since Justice.

A few Ive thought of

Queensryche - going from operation mindcrime in 87 a true power metal concept masterpiece to what they have been over the last 15 years is one of the biggest falls from grace.

The legal issues with Geoff Tate screwing the band over didn't help but they havnt been able to pit anything decent since the early 90s.

Nightwish- first few albums up to 2005s "Once" were fantastic, then Tarja left the band and they were never the same

Opeth - Started out as a straight up melodic death metal band, then evolved to be the greatest ever progessive death metal band, then stripped all metal elements out and just played progressive rock (barely rock)

Such a dramatic change means the band are no longer playing to their strengths anymore.

@thehig1: And Justice for all was 31 years ago. Haven't heard the new album but I can say that every album since Justice has been complete crap. Dave Mustaine leaving Metallica to start Megadeth was the best choice he ever made.

I think the Tarja-Olzon era had better songwriting but Jansen is a better singer for those songs.

Genesis and Yes. Both great progressive-rock bands in the 70's that went synth-pop in the 80's. If I'm being honest, they were good synth-pop bands. It's just disapointing to see such talented musicians put out low effort stuff like that.

Tool is probably a better example, as they went from great to just straight up bad. A friend of mine says their new album is actually good, but I'm afraid to listen.

@heathen75: again disagree, Garage Inc was great, Load and Re-Load were alright and S&M was fantastic.

Death Magnetic was somewhat a return to form too.

Guns N' Roses

Never heard Garage Inc. If it's anything like Garage Days, I'd probably dig it. Garage Days was one of my favorite albums in the late 80's. Black album was the beginning of their decline for me. Enter Sandman is one of my all time most hate songs. They got old. It happens. Musical tastes change as you age. I know mine have.

Death Magnetic did surprise me. Wife still loves them so she got the album. They'll never return to form though. Just too old now. While Trujillo did energize them a bit, I prefer him with Suicidal Tendencies or Infectious Grooves.

I like the new Tool album, but it's not their best. 10,000 Days is my favorite, though, so I don't agree with your take on them. I feel like their albums just get better. Maybe the new one will grow on me. The shortest song is 10 minutes long, and it's kind of hard to find the time to listen to an album like that.

Couldn't really get into new Alice in Chains once Layne Staley passed. It's not terrible I guess, just nowhere near as good as it used to be.

Greenday going to punk to poprock or pop punk whatever you want to call it.

Not that I hate them, but most Nu Metal bands just aren't the same to me, even if I absolutely love them.

Like when I listen to some 70s bands who absolutely changed, just feel like all their music is good. Like Paul McCartney, I've yet to listen to one of his songs I don't like, whether Beatles, With Wings, or latest solo stuff.

Panic! at the Disco. They used to be emo to the bone now they just sound like pure pop.

Disturbed, definitely. Their last two albums sucked and it was sad. Softer riffs, bad vocal ranges from Draiman that all sounded the same. I was down with their sickness for most of my youth, and I couldn't bear when I first heard What Are You Waiting For.

Godsmack. Their first three albums were good. The rest is yawnable.

Metallica of course, before the 1991 album, was brutal. Afterward, they became watered down grunge superstars and no one remembers them in the 80s save for Burton dying. It's so tacky.

Always hated how U2 went from alternative to adult alternative.
