I kind of have the topic of weeaboos and "Japanophiles" and what not on my mind since I've seemed to run into so many of them throughout the course of my life. Has anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with them?
I hang out with a group of friends at school for lunch (this will now change, since I have a different lunch period than all of them starting on Monday. That's when second semester begins.) and I thought I'd take the opportunity to vent my "frustrations". It's not so much a feeling of frustration as it is wondering if anyone else has had this experience.
Anyway, there are two girls in our little group that are Korean (East Asian) wannabes to the very extreme. They are Indian, but act and talk as if they are Korean and don't even acknowledge their own heritage or anyone else's for that matter. They constantly gush over the latest K-pop bands and how hot the members are, they only play Japanese/Korean games, they are crazy into anime and manga, they write and say minor phrases in Korean to try and show how "well-rounded" they are with the culture, and so on and so forth. They pretty much fit the exact stereotype, only it's Korea instead of Japan...well sometmes, Japan.
One of the girls in particular...if you are not heavily obsessed with Korean/Japanese entertainment and culture like she is, she will tune you out completely. She won't even look at you, she won't even talk to you. If you say hello to her, she will ignore you completely.
I just think it's stupid how people can allow themselves to be so consumed by something, anything in general. What is it about these people's lives that they have to live with such a huge obsession and such huge obscurities from their daily lives? I can understand liking something, but to the point of flat out ignoring people if they aren't into the same things as you...what do you think?
