Imo, no good albums were released thus far this year. At least, none that I can think of. There may have been a couple, but not 10.

Most of the Big band releases were really bad this year. Borgir made their worst album ever and Rush didn't really made anything spectacular, but hey, still better than most of the stuff I can think of.

Not just "Big bands" but (at least to me) all album releases this year. I'm not much of a fan of underground music either, so that's out. I'm just waiting for the next good rock band to come out. Nothing "emo", "screamo", metal, or (heaven forbid) soft rock :P. Idk, my tastes for music seems to be limited mostly to older bands (cIassic rock lover right here), so that's probably why I'm not too into most modern-day music/releases. Oh well...

I've bought Enoid last album. I am a real Black metal extreme fan. My favorite bands are Death metal, but I mostly prefer Black.

You know, maybe I just don't get it, but why is it so many people listen/enjoy a fictional band? I mean, I'm sure you enjoy the music, but how can a band that doesn't really exist except in cartoon form manage to release albums, let alone sell them? It's all too unusual for me :?

Not in order, because I've yet to decide it:

1. Low Drums & Guns
2. Explosions in the Sky All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone
3. Radiohead In Rainbows
4. Beirut The Flying Cub Cup
5. Jesca Hoop Kismet
6. Justice Cross
7. Do May Say Think You, You're a History in Rust
8. LCD Soundsystem Sound of Silver
9. Matthew Good Hospital Music
10. Modest Mouse We Were Dead before The Ship Even Sank

Honourable mentions(so far): Arcade fire(Neon Bible), Calla(Strength in Numbers), Eluvium(Copia), The Animal Collective(Strawberry Jam), Port Royal(Afraid to Dance), Pelican (City of Echoes), The Six Parts Seven(Casually Smashed to Pieces), and Menomena(Friend and Foe).

I still need to hear Spoon, Sunset Rubdown, The Field, and The National's new albums.

MoonSpoon

I just lost my lengthy post due to some browser malfunction, so I'll have to cut this short.

EitS: Great album. A little "safe" for my tastes, but I really like the drumming and the closing track. No classics, just solid numbers all around. Good enough for top 10. Not enough for top 5.

Strawberry Jam: I've never been able to enjoy an entire AC album, and this is no different. The songs I like are incredible. The ones I don't...well, I skip them. Cuckoo Cuckoo has grown on me lately though, so who knows?

Afraid to Dance: Great album. It might nudge LCD SS or Modest Mouse off the chart. I'm really digging a couple of songs. The others are solid, but don't seem too notable. Still, I've been too busy to take a good listen lately. Last time I sat through it in full was....August? September?

I will say one thing though...Drums and Guns is like an insatiable fungus on me. I used to think it was "Okay". Now? I can't get the songs out of my head. "Take Your Time" is probably my favourite track tis year, ahead of MANY other incredible tracks I've heard this year.

There's about a dozen albums I left off the honoraries. I still need to hear about a dozen or so albums, and they could be movers and shakers.

I figure once Dec 15th rolls around I'll celebrate the finishing of my 2nd last semester of college with a Music Year In Review. Not that anyone will care, but I'll enjoy writing it. :P

Radiohead albums are hard to rate, especially those 3. Each has its own sound.

I prefer KidA over the bends, over OK Computer, over (Hail to the Thief=In Rainbows=Amnesiac) over Pablo Honey.

Only "Dashboard" and "March Into the Sea".

Those two songs put me off so much I stopped listening, but still imported into my music library. A month or so later, I began listening back to front, and it started to grow on me. "Spitting Venom", "Parting of the Sensory", "People As Places As People" and "Missed the Boat" are all excellent songs. I'm no die hard Modest Mouse fan(and thus, duue to some things I say, I get flamed a fair bit), but remove Dashboard and March Into The Sea, and you've got an album that's every bit as good as "The Moon & Antarctica".

10. Modest Mouse We Were Dead before The Ship Even SankLockedge

this was so disappointing.

I'm no die hard Modest Mouse fan

i am. i guess that explains my disappointment...

listening to this is a long drive... and then we were dead... is like listening to two totally different bands. i'm definitely not opposed to bands experimenting and changing their sound, but this was, in my opinion, a change for the worse. too poppy/overproduced for my taste.
