Heading up to college in the morning and just the other day my mom comes back from the mall with an entire brand new set of pots and pans. As a result, I was 'gifted' the entire kitchen and told that leaving it was not an option. Really only needed to take one or two but now i have 3 boxes of kitchen stuff that I don't need. Anything similar happen to anyone elsel; getting a bunch of hand me donws that you don't need and can't fit in the car?

Nah I'm sure I have plenty of use for the thousands of blankets and pillows that once filled the attic, apparently. .... Oh my god, I could build a fort with them :| I'll be back.

You won't need any of that. Sell it and make some money

EDIT: If you are a freshman, which I just assumed you were.

You won't need anything cooking related. Sell it and blow the money on hoes (or books...books are expensive)

I myself have a rather large box full of pots, pans, plates, cups, etc. that I'll never use. However, to blame is not my mother but past roommates who do not take their stuff with them.

Your mother is trying to take care of you and make sure you don't go hungry or end up eating out of boxes, bags and styrofoam trays for the next four years.

Unless they are a family hand-me down (like your grandma owned them too), a big sentimental something or other for your mom (or you for that matter), or they are really expensive, you could always just take the ones you need and donate/sell the others (unless of course your mom is going to kill you for doing that). Beware the mom anger!

I'm moving out in a couple of weeks and I'm going to have a bunch of plates, pots, pans, blankets, etc. My brother and sister (both of whom are living in their own homes) want excuses to buy new sets, so they are dumping everything on me. It's good, but the same thing is happening to my room mate, so we have four sets of everything now ...
