I was having a conversation with my aunt this morning and came to the point to say something about the last decade but I couldn't think of the right word which was the best to call the last decade. I looked this up when I got back to my apartment and couldn't find an exact label for it. I found so many different names such as the naughts, turn of the century, the ohs, the two-thousands, the oughts, and a few others. I personally think all these names are not good. I think something like twenty zeros (0's) would be a decent fit as it keeps along with the traditional 20's, 30's, 40's ... What do you guys think about this and is it even worth labeling a decade? If not, then are we to reflect something that took place during those years?

Edit: I'm talking about the years between 2000 to 2009.

It's really annoying. Every other decade works so well then we have the years 00 to 10. I don't like any term for it.

I planned to dodge the whole thorny issue by simply never referring to anything that happened from 2000-2009. Bingo.

A decade is ten years.

2000 (1), 2001 (2), 2002 (3), 2003 (4), 2004 (5), 2005 (6), 2006 (7), 2007 ( 8 ), 2008 (9), and 2009 (10).

I'm right. :)

It sure does sound weird because it doesn't end in ties such in the fifties, sixties, and so on but it surely is the next best thing.

And a century is a 100 years, does that mean that 1647-1747 is the 17th century ? The 17th century started January 1st 1601 and ended December 31st 1700. There is no 0 year in our calendar, which means that the last decade started on January 1st 2001 and ended December 31st 2010, and this decade started January 1st 2011. Which part do you not understand ?
