Poll Terminator vs. Terminator 2. Which is better? (61 votes)

The Terminator 34%
The Terminator 2: Judgement Day 66%

Just re-watched both these movies this week and I'm trying to decide which is better and I need some of your guys opinions. So, which one do you think is better overall? What are your reasons?

Thanks for the responses in advance. :)

Terminator 2. One of the best sequels ever made.

They kind of have different purposes. The first one was supposed to be Sci Fi horror and the second is Sci fi action. James Cameron got the idea of this horror scenario when he had a nightmare while he had a fever apparently.

Terminator 1.. I can't watch T2 anymore simply for the fact that I can't STAND Edward Furlong as John Connor.. I can't stand T2's John Connor, I hate his dialogue, and it really detracted from the movie..

The only John Conner I disliked was the one from Terminator 3. He spent the whole time having a pity party, and that was the guy who was going to save the world?

I know this is kind of necroposting but with the release of Terminator:Genesis this thread is kind of relevant.

I feel like Terminator 2 is the cinematic equivalent of Resident Evil 4 both are considered the "best" in the series by most fans and both are responsible for the franchise's inevitable downfall, like everyone has said T1 never needed a sequel its a self-contained movie but since T2 is a retread of T1 with more time-travelling it adds more plotholes&inconsistencies like how Skynet only exists because of the chip from the terminator of the future.

With the success of T2 almost ALL of the sequels try to be like T2 the same bombastic action flicks with more&more time travel making it more like a parody of the first movie which was a horror flick.

I prefer the first one because it has a bleaker story and the terminator in that movie seemed more of a threat because the humans were on their own. In the second one they had their own terminator to help. The massacre at the police station in the first one was also one of the best scenes ever filmed imo.

Terminator 2. There isn't a bad shot in the entire film. Terminator, however, has some iffy visual effects shots.

T2 is better just because Arnold should be the good guy. His voice, his face the way he moves and interacts you sympathise with him. even though hes a giant you still love him. Its like hodor from GoT. You are forced to love him. Terminator Salvation is just plain bad.

Terminator Salvation just really wasn't well thought out. Too many plot holes that they were too lazy to deal with intelligently.

It was a absolutely AWFUL movie.. From start to finish.... Typical Hollywood dribble.. Oh a boy and little girl who both look extremely well fed have survived all by themselves fighting machines that have been trained in all sorts of military tactics.. That being said I am leaning towards T1.. Because I can't stand Edward Furlong's character in number 2... He made the movie weaker.

@torenojohn7: Whell at least you admit it was wrong to bump this thread but however, I remember this thread but never comment when I first sign up GS.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day teach us about one thing, no faith but what we make. That right there told us that the future Skynet was inevitable, it couldn't be stop. T2 will always be the best one and that movie is when it should have ended making any sequels.

I really liked the both of them, but the quality in script is quite apparent when asking the question. T2 Judgement day, for me at least, is simply a classic. Great acting, amazing soundtrack, great story.

A very difficult question. Budget and effects wise, Terminator 2 stomps on it. They both have interesting stories as well in their own ways.

Having recently re-watched Terminator, the romance is well done, I know it's something people don't automatically think about when it comes to Terminator, but the paradox story Kyle Reese basically saying he's never been with a woman, having held on to her picture presumably his entire life with the fucking sad "dun dunn dunn" terminator theme was great. When he dies abruptly as ****, you feel it. Unlike Terminator Genisys re-watching it I give a shit about the relationship of the characters.

It has one of two weak points, some of the effects, particularly the animatronic mirror scene, even at the time looked abit shit. The car chase sequences are "good". at best, not even scratching Terminator 2's..

Even though Terminator 2 was one of the first major movies to use CGI technology, it still holds up remarkably well today thinks to it's moderate use, integrated with practical effects.

Overall though, Terminator 2 was a landmark movie, one of the best sequels made and arguably the best action/scifi (or even action) movie made.

So, yea, Terminator 2.

I found T2 more cheesy than T1, not to mention the introduction of the angst-ridden kiddie element kind of ruined the sci-fi element for me.

T1 for me.

I group T1 with the likes of Blade Runner and darker sci-fi movies. T2 falls more in line with say, Independence Day and uh, Disney. ;)

I would say T1 just for the "OMG WOW!!!" Factor of seeing the film for the first time.

I first saw T1 when i was 11/12 couldn't believe what i was watching, it was sooo cool!!

T2 was really good still, but after that the termintor series softened up alot compared to the first two films.

The original. Terminator is much more menacing in the first movie. It's basically a souped up babysitter in the second.

I don't think it's a contest of "better". I see Terminator as a horror type movie and Terminator 2 as an action movie, I don't think I could pick one over the other.

T2 most definitely ! But 1 is the beginning, so you have to watch both. Buy part 2, get part 1 free, lol .. Thats how it should be sold. You can find T1, and T2 at the Wal-Mart $4.99 bin.

I usually hate time travel movies (just too many paradoxes), but my fave is T1.

Has anyone really sat down and thought how exponentially larger a feat that the "flesh suit" the terminator is wearing? With that level of genetic control why not send a fully organic regenerating terminator grown in a lab to kill John Connor.
