Stupid Windows Live Messenger (Help needed)

Ever since I updated from Windows Messenger 7.5 to Windows Live I can't see display pictures or personal messeges. I've tried re-installing, but still nothing. I have display pictures "on", but I still can't see them. Anyone know how to fix this?

lol yeah, if you have to, oh wait. in the chat windows there should be a little ">" icon on the near the top righhand corner, click it, and it hides/shows the DP's

I know that, but even if they are showing I can't see other people's DP's.
