It was reported yesterday that in the next decade that standard light bulbs will cease to exist, as they are to cost effective on current electric bills. In the near future they are going to be replaced by flourescent bulbs which may cost alittle more money to purchase, but will significantly lower one's electric bill by up to $40 bucks a month. so what do you guys think of this news?

Not to mention compact flourecents last a lot longer than standard bulbs. So they consumer less electricity (save you money + environmental) and you dont have to replace them as often (save you money). The only downside I've heard is they contain trace amounts of mercury, so there may be some disposal issues. I can still see standard bulds being produced for certain things like photography, but it will be more of a niche' market like film cameras are today.

There should be recycling facilities where they take the broken bulbs...

I had one in my house and I will never get one again. The reason is because when we had a power surge, the fluorescent bulb was finished, meaning when the power came back on, the bulb no longer worked.

They are also cheaper now, cheap than previous years... I bought a 4-Pack of 23w CFL's (100w equivalent) for $2! :o
