Sorry state of affairs

This thread isn't even about ducks, although they may come up at some point.

What the hell happened to this forum? When i joined Gamespot in ye olden days I wanted to troll System Wars but I ended up being an OT poster because this place was a lot of fun. Sure, it had a pretty big share of religious and political threads for people to get entrenched in, but there was a lot of off the wall, genuinely funny and inventive stuff going on, and nowadays this just seems to get locked down, with people being told to blog it. The place seems like a complete personality vacuum, with people being too scared to say anything weird (for fear of moderation (ducks)) outside of the roll call, which is basically a +1 thread for all the post whores. When was the last time OT had a meme that didn't come from elsewhere? Nobody here does anything interesting anymore.

At least this place used to have personality. I never thought I would say i missed RyanTheGod but do you people even know what an IWHI thread is?

I mean damn, even System Wars has had most of it's interesting users banned, would you know what the hell i was talking about if I said LAMALAMALAM TSHBO! I think not!

But hell rather than talk about why this place has become so obsessed with rules, and why it's okay to make a thread about how burned people like their toast (which will get to 150 posts) but not to do something even slightly surreal, lets just lock this thread up, give me my point loss and move on.

Feel free to say 'well you can leave if you don't like it', guess what, I pretty much have. For a while I was one of the most popular and prolific posters on this forum, and I've maybe made 100 posts in the last three years. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong, but make sure you do it in such a way that you can't possibly be reported for it, because someone will probably be looking to do so.

My problem with OT is it's dead now. Not long ago, if a thread was made and there wasn't a post within a minute, it was on page 3. Now the forum can go minutes without a new post.

I agree. This forum is pretty boring most of the time and it used to be one of my favorites.

Agreed. I used to creep here when I was younger, and it was way different... way better. The forum used to move so fast and people used to post more random, funny topics.

Now it's mostly politics and news and occasional random threads.

anyway.. imo it's the same as it's been. you just get used to it. when you first come along everything is fresh and cool and exciting then you hang around for a bit and you see it's the same stuff over and over and over.

SW used to be a fun place to post back in the xb, ps2, gc days. 30 page flame wars, every thread ending with a TSHBO, TLHBO, TCHBO, etc. You could get away with a lot. Moderations usually dealt with the seriously trolling people or those that posted bad porn and stuff like that. But then a certain person killed that forum with regulation after regulation. SW is now a place you go to get banned or suspended. I fail to see the point of a forum like it anymore. "System wars" sounds like a place to go and slug it out. It was the one forum where GS wanted all the bad stuff to keep the rest of their forums clean. Now, SW is more like the old GGD. Everyone sits around holding hands and singing. You can get banned for the serious offenses of quoting more than 5 people or posting in a thread that already has a stick. I think GS should just kill it since it's already dead in spirit.

OP, I feel exactly the same way. I may not be a long time poster, but I've lurked for years and years. This place isn't interesting OR fun anymore.

Most threads just bring something up and bend it in to a hasty over generalization of how America sucks, people who have faith are idiots, and anyone not on the left sucks. Those people are also responsible for pretty much everything wrong with the world. Any thread not dealing with this usually turns in to a proverbial d*** measuring contest.

Completely agree. It's why I rarely post anymore.

I've seen countless interesting threads that get locked for no apparent reason other than it not fitting that moderator's criteria of the day module.

Moderators, let things play out... if it gets out of hand, yes, moderate it. But don't kill of threads before they even get a chance. Most people can decide for themselves what they deem interesting. If they think a thread is funny/interesting, then they'll post. If not, the thread will die. It's as simple as that.

Everyday it seems like GS is losing more traffic..the forums are at a crawl.

They gave into the*censored* that wanted more rules and its killing this place.

As for the users though..there are alot of creative folk here still but they are gagged all to hell by the haters and the meme's are just recycled from the past(Like years ago)

Just another phase to me though..having been here since the start it has had its ups and downs but never like this and if things keep getting slower people will keep moving on to other places and then the powers that be will have their hands forced.It is possible to have a awesome forums here and still be rated pg-13.

I haven't had much a problem keeping within the rules, but I have noticed a disctinct lack of comedy from when I first joined.
This could be entirely based on the fact that I was like 14 back then, though.

Threads that are off topic should be allowed in off topic.Obviously they can't allow WYHI threads but all these rules are so silly its funny and kinda sad to see.

The mods though are just doing what they were brought on to do.So really its the powers that be dictating behind the scenes the mods just have to carry it out.
